About Dodge
In Stellantis’ lineup of automakers, Dodge stands out for being the high-performance brand with high-performance vehicles. While other American brands have moved away from high-powered muscle cars and SUVs in favor of electrified vehicles and smaller turbocharged engines, Dodge is still known for its V8-powered machines that come in all shapes and sizes.
Currently, Dodge only has four models in its lineup, but the automaker’s line of vehicles was much larger in the early parts of 2000. The automaker had a well-defined lineup with small cars such as the Neon, Avenger, Intrepid, Caliber, and Stratus. Beyond the Durango, Dodge had only a few available SUVs back then with the Nitro and Journey. And before Ram trucks was spun off into its own brand in 2009, Dodge had a comprehensive line of pickup trucks including the Dodge Ram 1500, Dodge Ram 2500, and Dodge Ram 3500.
High-performance cars have become Dodge’s bread and butter. The legendary Viper was renowned for being raw and unfiltered, while the Challenger, which was revived in 2008, is one of the few modern muscle cars and can be bought with up to 1,025 horsepower. The Charger that was brought back for 2006, meanwhile, is a family friendly four-door car with supercar levels of power.
It’s no surprise that fuel economy and emissions haven’t been focal points for Dodge. That’s going to change in the near future as the automaker is set to discontinue its V8-powered vehicles. Additionally, the introduction of the plug-in hybrid Hornet subcompact SUV has set the tone for Dodge’s future. The American brand will also introduce an electric muscle car within the next few years.
