About Buick
In the U.S., Buick is one of four automakers under General Motors’ portfolio. The American brand is seen as GM’s entry-level luxury brand, occupying a space between Chevrolet and Cadillac. Buick relies on GM’s wide portfolio of products for its vehicles, sharing platforms, powertrains, features, and technology with other brands.
In the early parts of the 2000s, Buick’s lineup consisted of staples such as the Park Avenue, Regal, LeSabre, LaCrosse, and Century. More recently, Buick has dropped sedans and convertibles entirely in favor of SUVs. Buick currently sells the Envision, Encore, and Enclave, but these SUVs have little in common with older models. In the past few years, Buick has introduced fully redesigned or all-new SUVs that are meant to attract younger buyers. All-new SUVs such as the Envista and Encore GX retain Buick’s value-oriented pricing and luxury-first character, while making the brand more competitive in smaller segments.
While Buick is one of America’s oldest automakers, the brand has begun looking to China as its primary market for both selling and manufacturing vehicles.
Unlike GM’s other automakers, Buick has been slow to introduce hybrid and all-electric models. The upcoming Electra E5 will be the automaker’s first all-electric SUV and utilize GM’s Ultium battery platform. It’s expected to go on sale in the U.S. in 2025.
