About AM General
AM General isn’t a household name and that’s simply because the brand is a specialist that focuses on heavy-duty military vehicles. It gained fame for coming out with the Willys Jeep that was used in World War II and for making the Mail Dispatcher DJ-5 that’s used by the USPS. While these two vehicles played a large role for AM General, the vehicle that really put the company on the map was the Humvee. The U.S. Army awarded AM General a contract to produce Humvees for the military. While AM General was busy building Humvees for military use, it also brought the AM General Hummer to market for consumers to purchase for road use. The Hummer originally came out in 1992 and was in production until 2000 when General Motors purchased the rights to the Hummer brand. While GM brought Hummer under its umbrella, AM General continued to build the Hummer H1 for GM until June 2006. AM General also assembled the smaller and considerably more civilian-appropriate Hummer H2 at its facility from 2002 to 2009. Today, AM General continues to build heavy-duty vehicles for military use and doesn’t have a commercial vehicle on sale.AM General Body Styles For Sale
