2023 Dodge Charger Overview

Pros

Muscular engine selection. Abundant opportunities for customization.

Cons

Dated cabin. Light on standard safety features.

Expert Review

ByWarren Clarke

The 2023 Dodge Charger is a full-size sedan that seats five people. It’s for drivers seeking a big car with lots of horsepower.

Dodge sells the Charger with many engine options, all of which are robust. The base engine is a 3.6-liter V6 with 292 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, and a second V6 with 300 horsepower is available. Drivers seeking the most muscle, though, will want to check out one of this car’s four available V8 engines, including powertrains with 370, 485, 717, and 797 horsepower. Add the Jailbreak package, and that last number rises to a mind-boggling 807 horsepower. An 8-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive (RWD) are standard across the range, with all-wheel drive (AWD) available.

Given its engine options, it’s unsurprising that the Charger provides quick acceleration. The top Hellcat Redeye sprints from 0-60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. Dodge sells this car in multiple trims, allowing you to customize the vehicle to suit your preferences.

There are also a couple of shortcomings to consider. For one, Dodge hasn’t done much to refresh the Charger’s cabin over the past few years, leaving it with a dated appearance. Also, this car is light on standard safety features, with just a rearview camera and rear parking sensors coming standard.

Should I Buy an Older Dodge Charger Instead?

The Charger is in its seventh generation, which was introduced with the 2011 model. Any older seventh-generation model (2011-2022) will be broadly similar to the 2023 Charger, and you can save money by purchasing one of these used cars.

BEST CAR EVER!

My Charger is not only a great looking car...its roomy, has all the features I wanted and the GAS MILEAGE is great!!! The trunk is spacious which is a big plus for me since I'm always carrying around strollers and beach chairs...LOVE MY CAR! Only 1 thing missing is the automatic seat settings (not a big deal).....

Lacking

Its a nice, roomy car that sounds great, however there are many areas that it is lacking. The weight of the car makes it feel very slow. Basic differential is too small, which is good for higher speeds and better mpg, but makes its barely get out of its own way from slow speeds. Seats arent that comfortable, yes they are thick and padded, but feels like im sitting on a yoga ball. Interior material and quality is “cheap” and lacking.

Love it!

I traded in my 2019 Dodge Charger SXT for this and I have to say it handles better, rides better and is obviously a lot faster than my previous version. This one is a Daytona edition and is decked out inside with a lot of luxury items. I am looking forward to many years of enjoyment from this car.
