The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLS is a midsize luxury sedan that seats up to five people. It’s meant for drivers who want a coupe-like design in a vehicle with more space than a compact vehicle provides. Buyers also get high-tech features, optional all-wheel drive, and high-performance powertrains.
What Makes It Unique?
The CLS is one of the few midsize sedans on the market with a coupe-like design. The tradeoff is it’s not as spacious or practical as a traditional sedan.
Mercedes-Benz introduced an all-new CLS for the 2019 model year. Before that, the last time the CLS was fully redesigned was back in 2010. That means any CLS from 2010 to 2018 will look similar and have similar features. You could save money by choosing a used CLS.
We don’t recommend the AMG CLS 53 unless you’re looking for a vehicle with performance rivaling a sports car. It’s much more expensive than the base CLS and only adds performance components that can only be enjoyed on the track.
2020 Mercedes-Benz CLS Performance
The CLS has two engine options:
362-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission and rear- or all-wheel drive
429-total horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive
Compared with the class? The CLS has one of the more powerful standard engines in the midsize class. When it comes to available engines, the BMW 5 Series, Audi A7, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class have more powerful available engines.
