A stunning design is just the most obvious highlight of the 2019 Lexus LC. Once behind the wheel, drivers will find themselves in control of a powerful cruiser that puts a wide range of technology at their fingertips. The rest of the cabin provides Lexus-style levels of craftsmanship and elegance.
The LC is a luxurious sports coupe with midsize dimensions. Seating for four people is standard. Lexus offers two trim levels for the 2019 models. The trims are primarily distinguished by their powertrains. The LC 500 comes standard with a V8 engine, a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. In the LC 500h, a V6-based hybrid system and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) are standard.
New standard features include a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, Amazon Alexa integration and Apple CarPlay. Lexus has returned the LC’s automatic transmission, too, and made a number of engineering changes to further improve ride and handling.
Additionally, a new LC 500 Inspiration Series model debuted for 2019. Limited to 100 units, the Inspiration Series features a Flare Yellow exterior finish, semi-aniline leather seats with yellow stitching, yellow Alcantara door inserts and a leather Lexus garment bag with a yellow lining to match the car.
The Lexus LC competes against high-end sports cars such as the Aston Martin Vantage and Porsche 911.
The Lexus LC looks like it might be a concept car that went right from the auto show to the dealership. Dramatic vents and muscular curves detail the LC’s body, which has an agile, light-on-its-feet appearance. The front has an unmistakable “spindle” grille with a distinctive mesh pattern that radiates out from the center.
Lexus supplies standard features such as LED headlights, LED taillamps, LED daytime running lights, flush exterior door handles, heated mirrors, a fixed glass roof and staggered-width 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. The LC is also available with a carbon-fiber roof, a speed-activated rear wing and staggered-width 21-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
Ornate details dominate the cabin of the LC. These include a single flying buttress that connects the dashboard to the center console. This piece helps symbolize the LC’s driver focus by clearly keeping the gear shifter away from the passenger. The same trim also echoes the flowing lines of the inner door panels. Lexus’ dramatic design does impact cargo space, leaving the LC with a trunk capacity of 5.4 cubic feet.
The LC comes standard with leather upholstery, heated and ventilated 10-way power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable steering column and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel. Eight-way power-adjustable sport seats are bundled in the available Sport package. Also optional are semi-aniline leather seating surfaces and a heated steering wheel.
The standard engine for the Lexus LC 500 is a 5.0-liter V8. It can produce 471 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid setup for the LC 500h combines a 3.5-liter V6, a lithium-ion battery and two electric motors for a combined 354 horsepower. The LC hybrid relies on a standard CVT and rear-wheel drive.
When equipped with its standard powertrain, the Lexus LC earns EPA ratings of 16/25 mpg city/highway. The fuel economy scores for the hybrid compare at 27/35 mpg city/highway.
The LC 500 is a bit heavier than some competitors, but its standard adaptive suspension ensures confident and composed handling. That potent V8 also delivers enough output to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 168 mph. A Torsen limited-slip rear differential is available as well.
The LC’s standard infotainment system includes a 10.3-inch display, a console-mounted touchpad, a navigation system, a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, Amazon Alexa integration, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, HD Radio, satellite radio and a 12-speaker audio system. A head-up display and a 13-speaker, 935-watt Mark Levinson audio system are optional.
Lexus provides standard driver-assistance measures including adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, forward collision warning, lane departure alert, lane-keeping assistance and pedestrian detection. With the available Convenience Package, the LC adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and front and rear parking sensors.
