It’s hard to pigeonhole the 2019 Infiniti QX30. There’s as much hot hatch in its DNA as there is crossover. As a result, the QX30 is both sportier and more versatile than typical sedans, and it has a slightly higher ride height. A high-end interior is another competitive edge from Infiniti.
The 2019 Infiniti QX30 is a small luxury crossover that competes against the likes of the Audi Q3, Lexus UX and Mercedes-Benz GLA. Seating for five is standard. It’s offered in four trim levels: Pure, Luxe, Essential and Sport. All have a standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive also is standard, and all-wheel drive is an option.
For 2019, the Luxe trim is available with new wheel and navigation packages.
The 2019 Infiniti QX30 has a dynamic, low-slung appearance that looks as if Infiniti flash-froze liquid metal into the shape of a sleek crossover-style SUV. To set off that exotic design, the QX30 can be configured with three different levels of ground clearance. The standard setup rides at a height of 6.8 inches, all-wheel-drive trims have 8 inches of ground clearance, and the Sport trim features a lowered suspension with a ride height of 6.2 inches.
Standard equipment includes automatic halogen headlights, LED daytime running lights, heated power-folding mirrors and 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. You can identify the QX30 Sport by its lowered ride height, dark chrome exhaust finishers and more aggressive front and rear fascias. Also available for the QX30 are options such as adaptive LED headlights, LED fog lights, a panoramic moonroof, fender extensions, roof rails, aluminum kick plates and 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
With its artistically flowing shape, the QX30’s dashboard is just as dramatic as the sheet metal on the outside. The long, flat hood over the instrument panel and center stack provides an interesting architectural contrast. It’s like a modern house set into a rural valley. The landscape isn’t quite so expansive in the back, where folding the standard 60/40-split folding rear seats creates 34 cubic feet of cargo space. The QX30 offers 19.2 cubic feet of space with the back seats in use.
Infiniti supplies standard equipment such as cloth upholstery, eight-way manually adjustable front seats, four-way power-adjustable lumbar support for the driver, a leatherette dash insert, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel. Sports seats and a flat-bottomed steering wheel are standard in the Sport model. The QX30 is available with leatherette or leather seating surfaces, as well as eight-way power-adjustable heated front seats and real wood cabin accents.
The standard engine for the 2019 Infiniti QX30 is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit that produces 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive also are standard. All-wheel drive is available for the Luxe and Essential trims.
The QX30 base model returns fuel economy ratings of 24/33 mpg city/highway.
Well regarded for its handling, the QX30 is especially fun to drive in its Sport trim. Upgraded suspension and braking systems are standard for that model.
The QX30’s standard infotainment system bundles a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, HD Radio, satellite radio, multiple USB ports and a six-speaker audio system. Infotainment options include a navigation system and a 10-speaker Bose audio system.
Automatic emergency braking and a rearview camera also are standard. Additional driver assistance is available through optional adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, automatic parking assistance, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, a surround-view camera system and front and rear parking sensors.
