Among the 2019 Hyundai Tucson’s highlights is a generous assortment of technology features. You don’t get short-changed on design details, either, as the Tucson is a sophisticated-looking ride with a dynamic appearance from all angles.
The 2019 Hyundai Tucson is a small SUV that falls between the subcompact and compact segments. A five-seat cabin is standard. Seven trim levels are available: SE, Value, SEL, Sport, Night, Limited and Ultimate. The Tucson’s standard powertrain has a four-cylinder engine, a six-speed automatic transmission and front wheel drive. Options include a larger four-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive.
Refreshed for the 2019 model year, the Tucson gets new style cues such as a bolder grille and a redesigned center stack. Lane keeping assistance and a driver attention monitor become standard. The 2019 model also offers a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that replaces last year’s turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder unit as the uplevel powerplant.
The 2019 Hyundai Tucson’s sporty look starts up front with swept-back headlights that flow back from a stylized hexagonal grille. The grille is set off by a domed hood that bolsters the Tucson’s powerful road presence. At the rear, a fastback-style roofline and high flowing body come together to create a dynamic finish.
Projector-style headlights are standard, as are heated mirrors, 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and an LED stop lamp integrated with a rear spoiler. Available equipment includes LED headlights, LED taillights, LED daytime running lights, automatic high beams, fog lights, a panoramic sunroof, a hands-free liftgate, mirror-mounted turn signals, 18- and 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, and premium front and rear fascias.
The 2019 Tucson has a comfortable cabin with as much rear-seat legroom as some larger SUVs. Hyundai dresses up the inside with a flowing dashboard that seems to undulate across the interior. A freestanding infotainment screen and prominent climate vents give the dash a contoured look, too. The Tucson offers 31 cubic feet of cargo space behind its standard 60/40-split folding rear seats. With the rear seats tucked out of the way, storage capacity doubles to 62 cubic feet.
Base models supply standard cloth seating surfaces, a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, manual air conditioning, cruise control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column and a multifunction steering wheel. You can upgrade the Tucson with options such as leather seating surfaces, climate-controlled eight-way power-adjustable front seats, heated rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control and a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The 2019 Hyundai Tucson provides a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s good for 161 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque is available. Each engine is matched with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional for both powerplants.
The driving experience is relatively quiet and composed, although some rivals are more engaging when you get behind the wheel. The Tucson trails many small crossovers when it comes to fuel economy. The standard powertrain enables EPA ratings that peak at 23/30 mpg city/highway.
The standard infotainment system in the 2019 Tucson includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a USB port, an auxiliary input jack, a six-speaker audio system and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. Hyundai offers infotainment options such as a navigation system, an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, HD Radio, satellite radio and a 315-watt Premium Audio system with eight speakers.
The Tucson provides standard driver-assistance measures such as automatic forward emergency braking, a driver attention monitor, forward collision warning, lane keeping assistance and a rearview camera. Adaptive cruise control, a blind spot monitor, pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert and a surround-view camera system are available.
