Distinctive styling, a powerful drivetrain and a comfortable interior make the 2017 Infiniti QX60 a standout in the three-row luxury SUV segment. While other premium crossovers may offer more horsepower or cargo space, Infiniti’s QX60 entices by providing a well-rounded package.

The 2017 Infiniti QX60 is a three-row, seven-passenger luxury crossover. The QX60 is powered by a V6 engine and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Front-wheel-drive is standard and all-wheel-drive is available. Buyers can also opt for a hybrid model that features a supercharged four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. The gas-only QX60 comes in a single trim, and the same is true for the hybrid.

For 2017, the V6-powered Infiniti QX60 gains 30 horsepower. The QX60 also receives an upgraded rear-seat entertainment system as an option, and a motion-activated power liftgate and Wi-Fi are now available.

The 2017 Infiniti QX60’s athletic styling proves that a seven-passenger SUV doesn’t have to look stodgy, and its modern lines and aggressive front fascia are youthful and fun. Refreshed for the 2016 model year, the current QX60 is now sharper and more refined. The side profile reveals a sloping roofline that ends in a signature bowed rear window. The unique look defines the crossover as an Infiniti, and is a visual cue that sets the QX60 apart from the rest of the segment.

The base QX60 features auto on/off HID xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights and integrated LED fog lights and brake lights. A power moonroof, integrated rear spoiler, rear privacy glass, power-folding heated side mirrors and a power rear liftgate are also included. Eighteen-inch five-spoke alloy wheels add to the premium feel.

Optional exterior accessories include splash guards, running boards, roof-rail crossbars and wheel locks. The Deluxe Technology package adds 20-inch alloys and a motion-activated liftgate.

The QX60’s cabin is spacious and well-appointed. Leather upholstery is standard, and the front seats are heated. Finding a comfortable driving position is easy thanks to the eight-way adjustable driver’s seat and the power tilt-and-telescoping steering column.

The QX60 is a true seven-passenger SUV, although the third row would prove to be taxing for two adults during a cross-country ride. The second-row seating features a 60/40-split folding setup, and the entire row can be tilted and slid back and forth to help with third-row ingress and egress.

Cargo space is good. The QX60 provides 15.8 cubic feet of space with all the seats in place, and that is expandable to 76.5 cubic feet thanks to the collapsible second and third rows. The large power rear liftgate facilitates easy loading and unloading.

Standard features include three-zone climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

Options include a heated steering wheel, climate-controlled front seats, maple interior accents and memory settings for the seats, steering wheel and mirrors. Third-row passengers can also opt for an additional set of vents.

The Infiniti QX60 is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine, and this engine is governed by a CVT. The base engine produces 295 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. The QX60 hybrid model includes a supercharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with an electric motor, and this powertrain generates 250 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel-drive is available in both the V6 and hybrid models.

Fuel economy is excellent for a midsize luxury SUV, although you will need to use premium fuel. EPA ratings for the front-wheel-drive QX60 are 20/27 mpg city/highway, and all-wheel-drive models achieve 19/26 mpg. The QX60 Hybrid is rated at 25/27 mpg.

The QX60 is an excellent city and highway vehicle. Daily driving is rewarding, and the Infiniti engineers have built a comfortable family-friendly SUV that is also engaging behind the wheel. The suspension hits the sweet spot between comfort and performance. It’s forgiving on rough roads, but holds itself together through twists and turns. Similarly, the speed-sensitive power steering is increasingly communicative while being pushed, but easygoing on the highway.

The 2017 Infiniti QX60 arrives with a long list of standard technology equipment. All models come with a six-speaker audio system, an in-dash CD player, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, MP3 playback, voice recognition, satellite radio and keyless entry and ignition.

The QX60 can be optioned to include one of two different Bose premium audio systems. A DVD player and a navigation system are also available.

While the base infotainment system is adequate, most buyers will want to invest in one of the premium offerings. The higher sound quality and active noise control are a better fit for the QX60’s luxurious nature.

The 2017 Infiniti QX60 received excellent crash test ratings from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). NHTSA awarded the QX60 a top five-star rating for its overall performance in crash tests, with five stars in the side-impact crash test and four stars in frontal crash and rollover tests.

The QX60 also received a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS, earning top scores of Good in all IIHS crash tests.

A rearview monitor is standard, and a surround-view monitor is available. Optional safety features include adaptive cruise control, backup collision intervention, front and rear park assist, blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning with lane departure prevention.

Pricing for the base 2017 Infiniti QX60 starts at $43,100, not including a $995 destination fee. With all-wheel drive added, pricing starts at $44,900. The 1,800 Premium package includes the 13-speaker Bose audio system and memory settings for the driver’s seat, steering wheel and side mirrors. A $2,900 Premium Plus package adds navigation and the surround-view camera system.

The $1,850 Driver Assistance package adds optional active safety features, and the $2,150 Theater package includes dual 8-inch color monitors, a wireless remote, wireless headphones and additional USB and power outlets. Buyers can also opt for the $1,000 20-inch Wheel & Tire package.

Those looking for an “all-in” approach will want to consider the $7,300 Deluxe Technology package, which bundles all of the active safety technology with a 15-speaker Bose audio system and additional upgrades inside and out.

Those seeking optimal fuel economy should take a peek at the QX60 Hybrid, which starts at $52,100 and offers solid value.

While it may not offer the interior space of some of its competitors, or the off-road prowess of others, the 2017 Infiniti QX60 is an excellent midsize luxury SUV for shoppers who want excellent style and a comfortable interior. The robust horsepower of the gas-only model and the strong fuel economy offered by the hybrid make the 2017 QX60 an appealing contender in its segment.
