A stunning new exterior design may be the first thing you notice about the all-new 2017 Infiniti Q60, but this athletic coupe is more than just a pretty face. A luxurious interior, nimble handling and a powerful twin-turbo V6 option make the updated Q60 a standout in this small but competitive segment.
The Infiniti Q60 is fully redesigned for 2017. This luxury coupe seats four and is available with engine choices that range from a base turbocharged four-cylinder to a 400-horsepower twin-turbo V6. Rear-wheel drive and a seven-speed automatic transmission are standard, and all-wheel drive is offered on all models. Five trims are offered: 2.0t, 2.0t Premium, 3.0t Premium, Sport and Red Sport 400.
The Q60 has always presented an athletic persona, and the redesigned 2017 model telegraphs that attribute with new sheet metal that’s elegant, muscular and unique to the class. A broad double-arch grille dominates the Q60’s face, while standard LED headlights and fog lights illuminate the road ahead. From the sides you’ll find 19-inch alloy wheels, as well as a long-and-low profile that alludes to this model’s dynamic handling and low center of gravity. Broad, high-mounted taillights are found at the rear, and they serve as a visual accent to the Q60’s wide, purposeful stance.
The Q60’s standard exterior features include automatic headlights, daytime running lights, heated sideview mirrors and a dual exhaust system with chrome finishers. A power moonroof, auto-dimming sideview mirrors and rain-sensing windshield wipers are among its available exterior upgrades.
A plush cabin is a prerequisite within this segment, and the redesigned Q60 succeeds in this regard with a modern and attractive design that’s strengthened by high-quality materials. Every touch point is covered in padded materials, while standard aluminum trim adds a bit of performance-oriented flair. Opting for a higher trim also provides access to carbon fiber or maple accents.
No luxury coupe offers an excess of cabin space, but the 2017 Q60 feels impressively roomy for the class. The front seats provide ample head and legroom, and the rear seats are spacious enough for adult passengers to feel comfortable on shorter drives. The Q60’s trunk also offers a fairly useful 8.7 cubic feet of space, though its tall liftover height can make it a little difficult to load bulkier items.
Dual-zone automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery and eight-way power adjustable front seats are standard on the base Q60, while higher trims add features like leather upholstery, power-adjustable sport seats, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
Infiniti Q60 2.0t and 2.0t Premium trims come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Q60 3.0t, Sport and Red Sport models come with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6. In 3.0t and Sport trims that engine produces 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Red Sport versions offer increased output, with 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard, and all-wheel drive is available.
The Q60 earns its best fuel economy estimates with the 2.0-liter turbo, delivering up to an EPA-estimated 22/30 mpg city/highway.
As tested, our Q60 3.0t Premium delivered a trifecta of comfort, power and handling that’s unusual, even in this luxury segment. The twin-turbo V6 feels stronger than the specs suggest, providing a rush of immediate power with little-to-no lag. Additionally, all of that engine’s torque is available from a low 1,600 rpm, contributing to a wide and exceptionally useful power band.
Regardless of engine choice, the Q60’s confidence-inspiring handling is likely its strongest performance attribute. Our test car handled twists and turns with ease, and Infiniti’s Active Trace Control system bolsters that agility by adjusting braking and torque from the engine as needed. All of this is achieved with minimal compromise, as the Q60 rides comfortably and quietly on the highway.
The 2017 Q60 comes standard with a rearview camera, proximity key, push-button start, satellite radio, two USB ports, Bluetooth and a six-speaker audio system with HD radio. Infiniti’s InTouch infotainment system is also standard. It features voice recognition and comes with a dual-display system that’s comprised of an upper 8-inch screen and a lower 7-inch screen. Navigation and a premium Bose audio system are among the available tech features.
With its dual touch screens and console-mounted controller, the InTouch infotainment system requires a slight learning curve for the uninitiated. However, after a few hours of acclimation we can attest that it is one of the easier systems to use from a premium brand. It offers quick response times, and prominent buttons for the main menu, audio and climate screens reside below the lower display for access to primary functions. Switching between audio sources is also particularly easy, as the audio display features a dedicated menu at the top of the screen to select satellite radio, Bluetooth audio and more. Many functions are also easily dialed up using steering wheel-mounted controls. Our only wish-list item would be integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is not yet available in the Infiniti lineup.
The 2017 Q60 comes standard with a rearview camera. No additional driver assistance features are offered with the base model, though more safety tech becomes available starting with the 2.0t Premium trim. These options include an Around View Monitor camera system, as well as backup collision intervention, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and forward collision warning with automatic braking.
The 2017 Infiniti Q60 starts at $38,950, excluding a $905 destination charge. Q60 3.0t Premium models that come with the 300-horsepower V6 start at $44,300, while pricing for a top-performing Q60 Red Sport 400 begins at $51,300.
Our Q60 3.0t Premium featured a host of option packages that boosted the suggested price to $55,255 after destination. These included a Technology package ($1,850) and a Driver Assistance package ($2,250) that brought in a host of active safety technologies. An adaptive steering system ($1,000), wood trim ($400), leather upholstery ($1,350) and a Premium Plus package ($3,200) that brought in features like remote start, navigation, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel were also included.
Many buyers who seek the Q60’s luxury and unique style may be happy with the base engine, though few options are available on the base Q60 2.0t. As a result, we would recommend at least paying a little bit extra for the 2.0t Premium trim. At $41,300, that model provides access to comfort and convenience features that many buyers will want, such as heated front seats, navigation and a suite of driver-assistive technologies.
A number of great cars compete in the Q60’s segment, and each offers a unique take on providing a blend of luxury, performance and technology. These rivals include models like the Audi A5, BMW 4 Series, Lexus RC and Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe. We think the redesigned Infiniti Q60 deserves serious consideration within this class. It’s attractively styled, both inside and out, and its thrilling driving dynamics should continue to put a smile on your face every time you slip behind the wheel.
