Small crossovers allow you to get around with ease and nimbleness in the city, and you’ll enjoy this benefit with the 2017 Honda HR-V. The HR-V also delivers affordable pricing and a highly versatile cabin.

The 2017 Honda HR-V is a subcompact crossover that seats five passengers, and it’s sold in LX, EX and EX-L Navi trims. Front-wheel drive and a four-cylinder engine are standard and all-wheel drive is available.

For 2017, the HR-V gains an additional exterior color choice, and it’s otherwise unchanged in its second year of production.

The 2017 HR-V offers tidy-looking sheet metal, with a front fascia that’s enhanced with a large lower-grille opening and sweeping headlamps. Its coupe-like profile features rear-door handles that are obscured by the rear roof pillar, and pronounced body sculpting helps give the HR-V a sporty look. From the rear is a clamshell liftgate that is topped by a roof-mounted spoiler.

Standard equipment includes 17-inch wheels, daytime running lights, halogen headlights, LED brake lights and power-adjustable side mirrors. Fog lights, a power sunroof, roof rails and heated side mirrors with integrated turn-signal indicators are available.

Subcompact SUVs aren’t usually hailed for their spaciousness, but the 2017 Honda HR-V offers reasonably roomy accommodations for passengers in both rows. Behind the front bucket seats is a versatile second-row 60/40-split bench seat. The cushion on this seat tilts up to accommodate tall cargo, and this makes it easy for you to tote items such as mountain bikes when the seat its folded. The HR-V has up to 24.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and up to 58.8 cubic feet of capacity with the rear seat folded.

Standard features include power windows and door locks, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, air conditioning and second-row heater ducts. Available equipment includes leather upholstery, heated front seats, an auto-dimming rear view mirror, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob and automatic climate control.

While the 2017 HR-V provides less power than some rivals, the crossover offers a pleasant ride quality and satisfying driving dynamics. All 2017 HR-V models come with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine generating 141 horsepower and 127 pound-feet of torque. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are available.

The 2017 Honda HR-V has an EPA rating of up to 28/34 mpg city/highway.

HR-V buyers get access to a decent assortment of technology features. Base models come with Bluetooth phone and streaming audio, a CD player, a four-speaker sound system, a rearview camera, a 5-inch color LCD screen, an auxiliary input jack and a USB port.

The list of available features includes satellite radio, HD radio, Pandora compatibility, navigation, a 7-inch display screen, a six-speaker sound system and a blind-spot camera.
