Today’s trucks are expected to easily haul big loads while also serving as comfortable transportation during suburban travels, and the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado provides this kind of versatility. With its myriad cab and bed configurations, it’s easy to find a Colorado that meets your needs.

For 2017, the Colorado adds a new 3.6-liter V6 engine, and it’s paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission. The ZR2 model is new this year, and it provides an off-road-friendly spin on the Colorado formula. Finally, the Colorado adds a Teen Driver feature as standard equipment. This feature provides tools that help parents monitor the driving habits of their teens.

The 2017 Chevrolet Colorado is a midsize pickup that’s sold with an extended cab that can be configured to seat two or four, or with a crew cab that seats five. Both 6-foot-2-inch and 5-foot-2-inch beds are available, and the Colorado is sold in base, WT, LT, Z71 and ZR2 trims. Both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are offered.

The exterior of the 2017 Chevy Colorado conveys cheerful efficiency. Several character lines grace the truck’s squared-off hood, and Chevy’s bow-tie logo sits at the center of a tall grille. Pronounced fenders house the Colorado’s standard 16-inch wheels.

Base models come with halogen headlamps, black beltline moldings, a light for the cargo box, a locking tailgate and a step on the rear bumper that facilitates easy access to the truck bed. The list of available features includes 17- and 18-inch wheels, step bars, spray-in bed liner, black bed rails, a cargo divider, chrome exterior accents, fog lamps, a molded hood protector, heated power-adjustable side mirrors and projector-type headlamps.

The Colorado’s cabin has been assembled with ease of use in mind. The front seats are roomy and comfortable, and the interior is home to solid build quality. Rear-seat room is tight in extended-cab models, but the crew cab provides enough space to keep those seated in the second row happy.

The list of standard interior amenities includes air conditioning, a power-adjustable driver’s seat and a manual-tilt steering column. The long list of upgrades includes an all-weather floor liner, heated front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather or vinyl upholstery, a folding rear bench seat, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column and automatic climate control.

The 2017 Chevrolet Colorado provides pleasant driving dynamics that make it an easygoing companion on daily commutes. Buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, and three transmissions are offered: a six-speed manual, a six-speed automatic and an eight-speed automatic.

Base models come with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine good for 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque, and this power plant has an EPA rating of up to 20/26 mpg city/highway. There’s also a 3.6-liter V6 with 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, and this engine achieves mileage of up to 18/25 mpg. The final engine choice is a turbodiesel 2.8-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The diesel-powered Colorado offers the best fuel economy in the lineup, with an EPA rating of up to 22/30 mpg.

The Colorado is capable of towing up to 7,700 pounds.

The 2017 Chevy Colorado comes standard with a six-speaker stereo, a rearview camera, a USB port, an auxiliary jack, a 4.2-inch color display and Chevy’s Teen Driver feature. The list of upgrades includes navigation, a 7- or 8-inch touch screen, a Bose seven-speaker sound system, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, a Wi-Fi hot spot with 4G LTE connectivity, Bluetooth phone and streaming audio, voice recognition, Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, satellite radio and wireless device charging.
