Overview

By Charles Krome (Last Updated 5/4/2018)

The 2013 Dodge Durango is a unique choice in the segment. It offers two key features lacking in many mainstream rivals: standard rear-wheel drive and an optional V8. The Durango matches the competition with unibody construction. This delivers a more comfortable ride than you get with the bigger body-on-frame vehicles. The Durango can supply many modern-day technologies, too, along with a large, versatile cargo space.

A three-row SUV, the 2013 Dodge Durango can fit up to seven. You can choose from four trims: SXT, Crew, R/T and Citadel. The standard powertrain relies on a five-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive; a six-speed automatic is standard for V8 models. All-wheel drive is optional throughout the roster.

The 2013 Dodge Durango welcomes new Blacktop and Rallye appearance packages.

Exterior

The athletic look for the 2013 Dodge Durango includes subtle contouring along the sides. That helps create a long, sporty stance. The Durango’s “crosshair” grille is front and center, where it’s set off by a sculpted front bumper and a wide lower intake. Two-piece wraparound taillights detail the rear end.

The Durango has stylish standard content such as fog lights and painted 18-inch alloy wheels. Automatic halogen headlights and power-adjustable heated mirrors are standard as well. As for exterior options, you’ll find many of your favorites here. These include auto-leveling high-intensity-discharge low beams, a power sunroof, a power liftgate, power-folding mirrors and three different 20-inch alloy wheel designs.

Interior

The Durango’s smooth, contoured appearance carries over to its dashboard. The result is a clean appearance with metallic trim for the climate vents, door pulls and the frame around the center stack. The Durango offers 17.2 cubic feet of storage space behind the third row, 47.7 cubic feet behind the second and 84.5 in total.

Standard content for the Durango starts with tri-zone automatic climate control, mesh-cloth upholstery and a multi-function steering wheel with a tilt-and-telescoping column. Dodge also provides some key upgrades. Leading the way are heated eight-way power-adjustable front seats, heated second-row seats, Nappa leather upholstery and a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel. Additionally, second-row captain’s chairs are available to replace the standard bench seat.

Performance

The 2013 Dodge Durango comes with a standard 3.6-liter V6. It produces 290 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The Rallye package adds another 5 horsepower. But for serious performance, the Durango features an available 5.7-liter V8. This engine increases output to 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. It also allows you to tow up to 7,400 pounds. The 2013 Ford Explorer, without a V8, has a towing limit of 5,000 pounds.

All Durango trim levels are equipped with standard rear-wheel drive and offer all-wheel drive. A five-speed automatic transmission is standard on V6 models, and a six-speed automatic is standard with the V8 engine.

The Durango’s EPA ratings surprise with the same grades for the V6 engine with both rear- and all-wheel drive. Either way, the ratings come in at 16/23 mpg city/highway.

Technology

The standard audio system for the 2013 Dodge Durango bundles a CD player, satellite radio, an auxiliary input jack and six speakers.

The Durango also is available with a number of in-demand driver-assistance technologies. They include a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, a blind-spot system, rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors. Two uplevel infotainment systems are optional. Both add 6.5-inch touch screens, 28 gigabytes of hard-drive memory, Bluetooth and a USB port. Other infotainment upgrades include navigation, a nine-speaker Alpine audio system and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system with a 9-inch drop-down display.
