About the Dealership
We are currently Celebrating 60 years in the business! Romana and Chuck Primus and the staff at Whaling City Motors have been proudly serving southeastern Connecticut and southern Rhode Island, including the areas around Westerly, Stonington, Ledyard, Groton, New London, Waterford, Lyme, Saybrook, Essex, Westbrook, Colchester, Montville, Norwich, and Griswold.
Romana's father, Sigmund Strochlitz, established Whaling City Ford in 1957 in downtown New London. In 1966, the dealership moved to its present location at Broad and Colman Streets.
Mr. Strochlitz became a well known public figure because of his extensive activities on behalf of local hospitals and other civic and charitable agencies. His warm greeting on cable commercials, "Come in. I'd like to meet you," prompted people to stop him on the street to introduce themselves. He loved to chat with the customers, and he established Whaling City as a friendly, open, easy-going dealership that focuses on the needs of its customers.
Chuck and Romana follow Mr. Strochlitz's lead. They are committed to keeping Whaling City Motors a place where customers enjoy their visits and get the highest level of automotive service. Their office is directly off the showroom so that customers can always find them to say hello.
Over the years, Whaling City Ford has sold more new Ford cars and trucks than any other dealership in the area and has won numerous awards for customer service.
In March 2008, Whaling City acquired the former New London Motors and moved Lincoln, Mercury and Mazda operations across the street to Whaling City's corner at Broad and Coleman Streets.
