Unexpectedly pleasant experience
I tend to keep my cars for many years and I dread shopping when it finally comes time to replace one. When I saw a particular car I was looking for on CARFAX, I contacted the dealer and made an appointment to see it. From the moment I arrived at the dealer I was impressed by everyone I met. Jason, the sales manager, introduced me to a salesman, Mark who showed me to the car. He showed me a few things, but pretty much left me on my own to check out the car to my heart's content (which is just the way I like it -- no salesman hovering, no pressure). I was able to test drive the car on my own. I liked it immediately, but said I would like my wife to drive it as well to be sure. Much to my surprize, Mark said I could drive it home (about 22 miles) to let her see it and bring it back later that day. My wife and I decided we liked the car so I returned to the dealer to negotiate the sale. The CARFAX report was a bit mixed, revealing the car had spotty preventive maintenance services and never returned to the dealer since it was sold. It also indicated some damage had occurred three times, though no major accidents were reported (a curious distinction, CARFAX). The dealer showed me a copy of their repair order that showed everything they did to get the car ready for sale. Having worked many years in car dealers myself, I was impressed by the thoroughness of their used car reconditioning process and I took it as a sign that they were confident this was a car worth fixing and retailing. There were a few niggling little problems that I asked to be addressed. Mark agreed and when I asked if we could do better on the price (even though the car was fairly priced) he knocked off $500! The reason I didn't give them the full five stars is twofold. First, when we went to pick up the car we were kept waiting for about a half hour while the recon dept. finished cleaning and waxing the car. Given that they had a full week to prep the car, it should have been ready and waiting when I arrived. Second, when I got home and checked my list of niggling little problems, most were taken care of with three exceptions -- a rattle in the back seat that they couldn't duplicate, a loose fender liner (which I fixed with a new plastic retainer from my stash) and a request to deactivate the automatic door locks that they couldn't seem to accomplish (but I did with a simple 30-second procedure in the owner's manual). These few minor hiccups aside, I was very pleased with both the car and the buying process. Jason and Mark went out of their way to address my concerns. Matt, the finance manager, explained all the paperwork that I needed for registering my vehicle in my state and offered me an extended service plan without being pushy about it. this is the third time car was in because passenger airbag light kept indicating airbag was off. the code was found this time and the whole bottom of the passenger side seat and airbag mechanism was replaced. hopefully that has fixed the issue. car did not have a driving issue,More
