Used Coupe Information

A coupe is a two-door vehicle with a two- or four-seat configuration (usually a two-seat or "two plus two"). They are usually associated with sports cars. Most coupes are either of a "sedan" style with a defined trunk or a "fast back" style with a rear hatch. Some morph the two designs. Most coupes are of a 40:50:10 design balance with about forty percent of the car's length being the hood (front end), fifty percent being the passenger compartment, and ten percent being the rear cargo area. By contrast, a "saloon" style coupe will have a longer hood in a 50:40:10 balance.

Many automakers build a coupe, often as a two-door variant of a larger sedan. The coupe style is often associated with sports cars and luxury touring vehicles. In the former category, the Ford Mustang and its rival the Chevrolet Corvette are popular American vehicles while the Porsche 911 and its variants are also sport coupes. In the latter category, the Aston Martin Vanquish, BMW M6, and Mercedes-Benz CL are definite luxury coupes. Combination luxury sport coupes are also a common entry in this market, with the Bentley Continental and most Ferrari and Lamborghini models fitting that description.

The Ford Mustang is the quintessential "pony car," a sub-segment of the sports car category, and is one of the most-recognizable American sport coupes on the market.

The Chevrolet Corvette is another easily-recognized American sports car and is a definite part of the American culture, being often-referenced in music, film, and literature.

The Porsche 911 has several variations, most of which are sport coupes. Some venture into the luxury coupe category, but most are sports cars with a solid reputation for power and performance on the road and the race track. Many consider the Porsche to be the "gold standard" for the balance of power and handling in European sports cars.

The Aston Martin Vanquish is an exclusive luxury coupe in the "grand touring" tradition of powerful sports-like cars that are nevertheless comfortable on long drives while keeping the sports car appeal.

The BMW M6 is one of several popular luxury vehicles in the BMW lineup of mid-level luxury offerings. It is one example of a long history of luxury coupes and touring cars from the German automaker.

The Mercedes-Benz CL competes with the M6 and similar vehicles in the luxury coupe segment. It is also one of several Mercedes offerings that fit this description.

The Bentley, Ferrari, and Lamborghini names require little introduction as some of the most exclusive and sought-after sports cars in the world. The Bentley Continental is the coach builder's most well-known luxury sports coupes with a racing heritage as storied as they come. Nearly every model offered by Ferrari and Lamborghini is either a sports coupe or a luxury sports coupe as well.
