Used Convertible Information

Convertible vehicles are a small, but popular market segment. Most vehicles sold in the coupe category will likely have a convertible option. Many sports cars are sold most popularly in their various convertible options.

There are several types of convertible, including targa tops, cloth tops, hard tops, spiders, and more. All refer to vehicles which can have their roof removed almost entirely to open the passenger cabin to the sky. Some automatically fold back, some require one or two people to exit the vehicle and lift the top off (in one piece or segments), and some "crank" back with a manual crank. Convertible vehicles make up about 3 to 4 percent of the overall automotive market in the United States.

Popular convertibles include the luxury segment's Infiniti G and Q series G37 and Q50, the Aston Martin Vantage, and others. The sport coupe category includes convertibles like the BMW Z4 and Mitsubishi Eclipse. Other popular convertibles are the Mazda Miata (aka MX-5) and the Ford Mustang.

The Infiniti G37 and its replacement, the Q50, are quickly becoming popular as sport sedans with a convertible option. These are sold globally, but have a growing reputation in the U.S.

The Aston Martin Vantage is one of the most exclusive and premium of the luxury touring convertibles on the market.

The BMW Z4 is a popular two-seater from the German automaker and competes with other convertibles across segments. It's most well-known for its sporty design and road-hugging handling.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse has been offered as a convertible in several markets globally and has been a popular entry-level sports car option in the United States.

The best-selling roadster (two-seat convertible) of all time is the Mazda Miata, also called the MX-5. This car enjoys a reputation for being relatively low cost, fun, affordable to drive, and it has one of the most active fan clubs in the world.

Finally, the Ford Mustang is the iconic American pony car and its convertible option has always been one of the most sought-after models since its introduction fifty years ago.
