Founded in 1919,Bentley
is a British manufacturer of luxury automobiles. Based in Crewe, England, the company is often referred to by its hometown. Ownership changes have removed the company from its founding family's namesake, being purchased by Rolls-Royce in 1931 which was then purchased by the Volkswagen Group in 1998.
In its history, Bentley has also been active in motorsports, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans six times including consecutive wins from 1927-1930 and its latest win in 2003. The car make has also been involved in the Mille Miglia since its inception and was part of the storied 1922 Indianapolis 500.
Bentley cars are known for their refined luxury as estate saloons, limousines, and executive cars. The company also produces sports cars, though in modern times is not as well known for this. Many Bentley cars on the used car market are collectibles, but the company has produced enough vehicles over time that their more recent models (around 20 years and newer) are still sold as used vehicles.
Common models to see on the market include the Azure, Mulsanne, and the Continental being most common. The Continental has several variants and is a sporting Bentley while the Azure is considered a luxury grand tourer, though it was replaced by the Continental. Other used Bentleys may include the Arnage, the coveted Zagato, and occasionally a State Limousine.
Prices for a used Bentley will depend on condition, but are usually robust. Buyers can expect a well-built vehicle with a strong heritage and most models will have a well-documented history.
