Initially interested in a 335xi. My mechanic owned a Z3 Roadster and asked if I wanted to drive it. A week later I have fallen for the sound of the engine, the power it produces, cornering and the looks from other drivers.

We purchased this car as a fun family third car. We bought it because it was low miles and well kept. The 2001 and 2002 model years are the best for the Z3. We got an automatic transmission to make it easy for our kids to drive and the Steptronic is a fun semi manual feature. I would also make sure to have the heated seats. We purchased the car via Craigslist and used CarFax and an online inspection service to check out the car before we traveled to close the transaction.

Great Sports car. Trouble free and values are increasing if you keep it mint. It will always be a classic. Repairs are no more expensive than any regular car.

A toy for me and the price was right ($4497 plus tax). After purchase I had my local BMW dealer replace front thrust arm bushings, both front struts, and a lower control arm ball joint. Replaced right door lock actuator. Will soon replace front bumper cover because of damage and badly repaired with bondo. From what I have seen of this car I believe the main passenger air bag has deployed and perhaps the left door air bag as well. This feeling based damage and bondo on front bumper cover and other small things. Aside from the aforementioned this seems like a great little car, and I expect to enjoy it for some time to come. From what I have read, those suspension items I had replaced were well past their expected service life. This vehicle had nearly 95K miles when I purchased it. If you are looking to purchase a BMW Z3 I suggest you have a hard look at the front end suspension and the replacement cost. Do factor in that cost with the sale price; then decide if it is worth it. Around here the average price seems to be around $8500-9000, so I believe I'm still money ahead with my "new" toy.
