2013 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER

Needed a safer car for a baby. Use it for traveling between family in different states. Very roomy and comfortable to drive. When the 3rd row is utilized there isn't much trunk space and it's tough for an adult to access. But there is a ton of room if the 3rd row is not needed.

I have owned the car for only 4 weeks but, so far, I love it. It is incredibly comfortable and rides like it is on a cloud. I buy only Toyota--my last one, a Camry, was 15 years old and still drove beautifully. The backup camera is a great feature, adding even more safety to the car. The only thing missing is a blind-spot mirror. I have tried to add one but it did not fit onto the existing mirror. I definitely recommend this SUV to anyone who is considering buying one.

2013 Toyota Highlander Overview

The 2013 Toyota Highlander is a three-row front- or all-wheel drive SUV that seats seven. It is offered in standard, Plus, SE and Limited editions and comes with two engine choices.

The base 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine found in the standard model is rated at 187 horsepower and comes paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. All other trim levels are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine making 270 horsepower and paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2013 Toyota Highlander with a four-cylinder engine is EPA-rated at 20/25 mpg city/highway. When equipped with the V6, the Highlander is rated at 18/24 mpg city/highway. All models take regular grade gasoline.

Toyota equips the 2013 Highlander with standard automatic projector-beam headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, power folding side mirrors and a keyless entry system. You will also find air conditioning, power door locks, cruise control, cloth seats, cargo tie down hooks and an under floor storage compartment in the rear cargo area. Plus editions bring in black roof rails, integrated fog lamps and a center console.

The Highlander SE comes with a power liftgate and a power tilt and slide moonroof. It also brings in a rearview camera, illuminated vanity mirrors, second-row reading lamps, a second-row storage console and a cargo area tonneau cover.

The Highlander Limited comes packed with amenities, including 19-inch alloy wheels, heated side mirrors and chrome trim. This model also provides three-zone climate control, leather trim and keyless entry with push-button start.

The 2+3+2 cabin layout offers very good room for the first two rows, but restricted legroom for the third row. That last seat is best used by children or folded to provide additional storage room.

Standard cargo space in the Toyota Highlander is very limited, measuring just 10.3 cubic feet behind the third-row seat. The storage area expands to 39.6 cubic feet with the second-row seat folded and to 81.6 cubic feet behind the first-row seats. The base engine provides a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds; the V6 up to 5,000 pounds.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2013 Toyota Highlander with its Top Safety Pick designation for achieving top scores in four test categories. This model comes equipped with an anti-lock brake system, brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution, stability control and traction control. A suite of air bags is present, including a driver's knee air bag.
