2012 Honda Civic Overview
The 2012 Honda Civic is a compact car that is available in coupe and sedan body styles. All-new for 2012, Honda also offers the Civic as a hybrid and a natural gas model. The gas-powered models are sold in DX, LX, EX, EX-L and Si editions.
All 2012 Honda Civic models except for the Si are powered by a 140-horsepower, 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. A five-speed manual transmission is standard and a five-speed automatic is available.
The Civic Si is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine making 201 horsepower. This engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission.
The Honda Civic is EPA-rated as high as 28/39 mpg city/highway with the standard engine and takes regular grade gasoline. Civic Si editions are rated 22/31 mpg city/highway and take premium grade gasoline.
All Civics (except for the Si) are outfitted with all-season tires and 15-inch steel wheels or 16-inch alloy wheels. Halogen headlights are standard. Power windows, a tilt and telescopic steering column, a 12-volt power outlet and a cargo area light are included. Cargo space measures 12.5 cubic feet in the Civic sedan and 11.7 cubic feet in the Civic coupe.
Air conditioning is not available with the DX edition. The Civic LX adds power side mirrors, power door locks, map lights, floor mats, a four-speaker audio system, a USB audio interface and an auxiliary input jack.
The EX edition brings in a power moonroof, heated side mirrors, automatic headlamps, Bluetooth, a 6-speaker audio system, SiriusXM satellite radio and navigation. Choose the EX-L and this edition adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a leather-trimmed interior and heated front seats.
The Civic Si comes fully loaded and brings in 17-inch alloy wheels, an aluminum shift knob with leather, sport seats and a 360-watt, seven-speaker audio system. The Civic Si comes with a sport-tuned suspension, a limited-slip differential, and alloy wheels. Performance tires are available.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2012 Honda Civic with Top Safety Pick recognition. The Honda Civic comes equipped with a collection of air bags, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist, stability control, and traction control.
