2012 Ford Escape Overview
The 2012 Ford Escape is a five-passenger, compact SUV. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available. The 2012 Escape is sold in XLS, XLT and Limited trim levels. A hybrid model is also available.
The Ford Escape offers two engine choices. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine making 171 horsepower is standard, while a 3.0-liter V6 engine making 240 horsepower is available. Both engines come paired with a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
The 2012 Ford Escape is EPA-rated is rated as high as 23/28 mpg city/highway. The V6 engine, available only with the all-wheel drive model, is rated 20/27 mpg city/highway. Both models take regular grade gasoline.

The Ford Escape offers 29.2 cubic feet of standard storage space. Maximum cargo capacity measures 66.3 cubic feet with the rear seat folded. The Escape has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.
In crash testing conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2012 Ford Escape achieved top marks in three categories: moderate overlap front, side and head restraints and seats. This model received a Marginal score for roof strength. Ford equips the 2012 Escape with a suite of air bags, including a side canopy curtain air bag system. Stability control, traction control and a tire pressure monitoring system are standard. Also available is a blind spot information system.
A parallel park assist system is available. It works with the electric power steering to guide the Escape into its parking space. A standard MyKey system allows parents to limit teen driving behavior by curtailing speed, keeping the traction control system enabled and limiting audio system volume.
