1999 PORSCHE 911

Just bought a 1999 Porsche 911 Cabriolet. I only had it two weeks before the airbag and charging lamps came on. I tracked it down to the alternator (probably just the voltage regulator but I chose to replace the whole thing). I ordered one and replaced it. I have been surprised how straight forward work on the engine has been. When it runs though, the car is great. There is a stretch of road on my way to work where I can get going pretty fast. I also have a 1989 Corvette. The Porsche is so much smoother and easily could do more. The Corvette suspension is a lot stiffer so you feel as though you are going fast. In fairness, the Corvette could go a lot faster as well but it doesn't seem as easy. The 911 is small. The back seat is nothing more than a storage area. No person could actually sit there. At first I didn't get it, but after driving the Porsche for about a month, I'm starting to understand why people seem so infatuated with these cars. NOTE, I can do most basic work on my cars. If not, I would have already spent a couple of thousand dollars on repair labor.

I had made a vow if I reach a certain age, I always wanted a 911. I found this car at an incredible deal and it had full service history and complete engine rebuild. No accidents....it is our weekend car. I chose the Tiptronic because most enthusiast will tell you from that year is that it is faster and more durable requiring less service....also, for my wife who does not drive stick. Make sure that you look into a car that has had the IMS service done since it is a potentially catastrophic failure if it goes. Take your time looking for your car. Be flexible on color and accessories. Before taking the plunge, do your research and make sure you purchase a mechanically/cosmetically sound vehicle.

Drove for 4 years (all in summer conditions). Very reliable, enjoyable. Would recommend these cars! Only replace wear items (tires, battery).

For the price, this is the best Porsche you can get. Don't let the Porsche snobs turn you away. Just be sure, when you purchase, to have a couple grand set aside for some repairs. Namely the IMS drive.
