The National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA)
provides 3
different ratings -
full-width frontal crash test
,
side impact crash test
, and
rollover resistance
. The frontal crash test indicates how
well the safety features
and restraints
will protect an occupant in a head-on
collision.
The side-impact test conveys
the chance of a severe chest injury,
while the rollover resistance rating
estimates the risk of
rolling over in a
single vehicle crash.

Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the inflated side curtain airbag. The dummy continued to rebound into the seat without its head coming close to any stiff structure that could cause injury.
Measures taken from the head, neck, chest, and both legs indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity.

Measures taken from the dummy indicate that rib fractures and/or internal organ injuries would be likely in a crash of this severity. A left femur fracture would also be possible.
Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.
The dummy's head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof.

STEERING:COLUMN LOCKING:ANTI-THEFT DEVICE
|
|
Description:
|
Certain passenger vehicles equipped with an 'intelligent key' fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 114, "Theft Protection." During an inspection of some vehicles at the assembly plant, it was found that the steering wheel was locked with the ignition knob in the "off" position but the vehicle transmission not being in the "park" position. If the key is turned to the "off" position without the transmission being in the "park" position, it is possible that the steering wheel can lock when turned to the right. Dealers will inspect and replace the steering wheel lock assembly free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on December 18, 2006. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.
