<p>The Chevrolet Uplander, Pontiac Montana SV6, Buick Terraza, and Saturn RELAY were introduced in the 2005 model year as replacements for the Chevrolet Venture, Pontiac Montana and Trans Sport, and Oldsmobile Silhouette. (A limited number of Chevrolet Ventures and Pontiac Montanas were produced for the 2005 model year.) The Pontiac Montana SV6 was discontinued after the 2006 model year.</p>
Dummy movement was reasonably well controlled. However, the dummy's head bottomed out the airbag and hit the steering wheel. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the B-pillar and roof rail.
High head accelerations occurred when the dummy's head hit both the steering wheel through the airbag and the B-pillar, indicating that head injuries would be possible in a crash of this severity. Injury measures taken from the neck, chest, and both legs indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions.

Description:

On certain minivans equipped with second-row bucket seats or captains chairs and a power sliding door on the passenger side of the vehicle, a passenger using the interior handle to open the power sliding door could be injured. If a passenger uses the interior handle to open the power sliding door and holds onto the handle while it is being opened by the motor, the passengers arm may be pushed into the seat back or armrest and a wrist or lower arm injury may result. Dealers will replace the power sliding door interior handle on the passenger-side. If the vehicle is equipped with a power or manual sliding door on the driver-side, the interior handle will also be replaced for appearance reasons. Note: before the vehicle is serviced, GM advises owners to not use the interior door handle to open the door. The driver can open and close the door from switches at the drivers position or by using the remote key fob. The driver should tell passengers to use the switch located in front of the door to open or close it. The driver should use the override switch to prevent operation of the power door by children or by others who are not familiar with its use. The recall is expected to begin in March 2005. |
On certain minivans, during the crash sequence of a side impact New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) test, the outboard release handle on the impact-side second-row bucket seat may be actuated and the rear latches may unlatch early. If the rear latches of the seat are released early in a severe side impact, the front outboard latch may disengage and increase the potential for injury to the occupant of the seat. Dealers will replace the seat latch release lever with a revised designed lever. The manufacturer has not yet provided an owners notification schedule. PARKING BRAKE

Description:
|
Certain sport utility vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 135, 'Passenger Car Brake Systems.' To meet the standard, the vehicle must not move for five minutes when stopped on a steep hill with the parking brake applied and the vehicle in neutral (N). Some of these vehicles failed this test. When the parking brake is released, the driver may notice unintended braking when accelerating, decelerating, or coasting, and a noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. Unintended vehicle movement could occur increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect for parking brake lever slippage at each rear brake caliper and replace the caliper if lever slippage is identified. The recall is expected to begin during September 2005. The all-new Pontiac Montana SV6 is a nice minivan that appeals to budget-conscious buyers who need room for family, dogs, and cargoes of all shapes and sizes. We found the Montana to be the most pleasing of the new GM minivans. Retailing for less than $32,000 including destination and delivery charges, the Pontiac Montana SV6 retails for $6,000 less than a Honda Odyssey, the current class leader in minivans. Overview:

General Motors has had two unsuccessful tries at building a minivan that the American public wants. Finally, GM may have found a workable formula with a selection of all-new long-nose family haulers: the Pontiac Montana SV6, the Chevrolet Uplander, the Saturn Relay and the Buick Terraza. The long-nose design gets the engine completely forward for additional crash protection, and out of the way, and lets the interior open up so that real American families can use every cubic foot. GM also believes that the long-nose design makes the minivans look more like SUVs and thus makes them more acceptable to those buyers who attach some kind of less-than-macho stigma to minivan ownership. Montana competes against the Honda Odyssey, the Toyota Sienna, the Dodge Grand Caravan, the Ford Freestar, and the Nissan Quest. We found the all-new Pontiac Montana SV6 to be pleasant and easy to manage, though not bristling with horsepower. It's roomy and competent, though it doesn't offer the latest in interior innovation. The Pontiac may be the best of the GM minivans with sporty, distinctive styling in a vehicle class not noted for those attributes. All-wheel drive is available, a key feature for owners who battle wintry weather. The Montana SV6 is priced well below the Odyssey and some of the other minivans, and cash incentives can sweeten the deal considerably.
