The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) provides 3 different ratings - full-width frontal crash test , side impact crash test , and rollover resistance . The frontal crash test indicates how well the safety features and restraints will protect an occupant in a head-on collision. The side-impact test conveys the chance of a severe chest injury, while the rollover resistance rating estimates the risk of rolling over in a single vehicle crash. Go to NHTSA to learn more about these results.

Leg/foot, right G
Restraints/dummy kinematics A
Important: Frontal crash test ratings can be compared only among vehicles of similar weight.
The Nissan Quest was redesigned for the 2004 model year.
Dummy movement was reasonably well controlled. There was too much upward steering wheel movement. During rebound, the deployed driver side curtain airbag kept the dummy's head away from the B-pillar. Measures taken from the neck, chest, and both legs indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. A high head acceleration occurred when the dummy's head hit the steering wheel through the airbag, indicating that injuries to the head would be possible. 2004 Nissan Quest 3.5S 4233 head curtain airbags for all three rows of seats 124 204 78 3.5 L V6 19 26

NHTSA Safety Recalls:
Important: The following recalls were issued for the 2005 NISSAN QUEST S/SE/SL by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA). To find out if a specific 2005 NISSAN QUEST S/SE/SL still has open recalls that require repair, CARFAX recommends contacting an authorized dealership for more information.

Recall date: Not reported
Units potentially affected: 109,437
NHTSA campaign number: 05V474000
Defective part or component: SEATS:MID/REAR ASSEMBLY
Description: On certain minivans, there is a seat adjustment mechanism that contains exposed moving components located at the rear inside edge of the second row seat. When the operator attempts seat adjustment, a finger may be pinched in the moving seat adjustment mechanism which could cause an injury. On earlier model vehicles built through June 28, 2004, dealers will replace the inboard second row seat adjustment handle, rivet a plastic reinforcement to backside of the existing seat back cover carpeting, install tie-downs and a flange to the inboard side shield. On vehicles produced from June 29, 2004 through September 26, 2005, dealers will rivet a plastic reinforcement to the backside of the existing seat back cover carpeting, install tie-downs and a flange on the inboard side shield. The recall is expected to begin on December 15, 2005. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.
Recall date: Not reported
Units potentially affected: 33,042
NHTSA campaign number: 05V480000
Defective part or component: SEATS:MID/REAR ASSEMBLY
Description: On certain minivans equipped with a folding third row rear seat, when the third row seat is raised from its stowed position, it engages striker brackets, one on each side of the seat cushion. The fold-away striker loop is welded to a mounting bracket. The striker may become detached from its mounting bracket due to a broken weld at the point of attachment to the bracket. If the third row seat striker weld fails, the striker could separate from the mounting bracket. Striker separation could affect the risk of injury in certain types of crashes. Dealers will replace the third row seat striker brackets. The recall is expected to begin on December 15, 2005. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

New Car Test Drive Review

Category: Review:
Summary:

The cure for the common minivan.
By John Rettie, NewCarTestDrive.com

The Nissan Quest offers innovative styling and interior versatility and brisk performance and handling. It's like a Maxima in minivan clothing. It's roomy and comfortable even in the very back seats. Quest can be trimmed as a first-class cabin four all passengers by opting for the leather upholstery, DVD entertainment system, Skyview roof and other features. The first of the 2004 models suffered some quality glitches but Nissan insiders say the 2005 models are better.

New Car Test Drive correspondent John Rettie reports from Santa Barbara, California, with editor Mitch McCullough reporting from Los Angeles.

Overview:

To paraphrase Nissan, the Quest is the cure for the common minivan. It eschews soccer mom styling for radical design. It boasts a powerful V6, the same engine used in the Nissan 350Z. Its smooth five-speed automatic would be perfectly at home in an expensive luxury car. Crisp steering, responsive handling and good high-speed stability make it more fun to drive than other minivans.

Its radical styling carries through inside with jetliner-style seats, optional Skyview glass roof panels and centrally located instrument cluster and secondary controls. Its cabin is comfortable and innovative. Its back seats are roomier, more comfortable, more functional and more interesting than those in other minivans.

The Nissan Quest ranks among the largest of the minivans. It's also one of the most versatile. Its long wheelbase, wide track and radically arching roofline contribute to its practicality: Its sliding doors open wider than those on other minivans. It boasts the latest features, including power sliding doors and a power rear liftgate, power rear-quarter windows, a sonar park-assist system and overhead mood lighting. And it can tow up to 3500 pounds.

Quest comes with the latest in safety features, including curtain airbags for all three rows, the required frontal airbags, active head restraints, electronic stability control (VDC), traction control (TCS), and anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist, plus a tire-pressure monitor. Side-impact airbags are optional.

Nissan introduced the Quest as an all-new model for 2004. The 2005 Quest starts at a lower price with the addition of a new base model.
