The National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) provides 3
different ratings -
full-width frontal crash test
,
side impact crash test
, and
rollover resistance
. The frontal crash test indicates how
well the safety features and restraints
will protect an occupant in a head-on
collision. The side-impact test conveys
the chance of a severe chest injury,
while the rollover resistance rating
estimates the risk of rolling over in a
single vehicle crash.

The Jaguar X-Type was introduced in the 2002 model year. All 2002 and later X-Type models manufactured after December 2001 include structural modifications to improve occupant protection in frontal crashes (note: information about when a specific vehicle was manufactured is on the certification label typically affixed to the car on or near the driver door).

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has evaluated the crashworthiness of an X-Type with the structural changes in a 40 mph frontal offset crash test into a deformable barrier.

Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the roof rail and A-pillar.
Measures taken from the head, neck, chest and right leg indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the left tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would be possible. Head accelerations from the roof rail/A-pillar hits were low.

Measures taken from the dummy indicate that rib fractures and/or internal organ injuries would be likely in a crash of this severity. A fracture of the pelvis also would be possible.
Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.
The dummy's head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TURN SIGNAL
|
|
Description:
|
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER SEDANS, THE POWER CIRCUIT WHICH FEEDS THE DIRECTION INDICATOR SYSTEM COULD FAIL. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE DRIVER BEING UNAWARE THAT THE EXTERNAL TURNING INDICATORS ARE NOT OPERATING BECAUSE THE INTERNAL ""TELL-TAIL"" LIGHT ON THE DRIVER'S INSTRUMENT PANEL CONTINUES TO WORK NORMALLY. THE LOSS OF REAR TURN SIGNALS COULD FAIL TO WARN A FOLLOWING DRIVER THAT THE VEHICLE IS TURNING AND COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE GENERAL ELECTRIC MODULE. JAGUAR HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT JAGUAR AT 1-201-818-8500.

PARKING BRAKE
|
|
Description:
|
On certain passenger vehicles equipped with lhd manual transmissions, the hand brake, which applies the parking brake, may not apply sufficient pressure to the brake pads to prevent the vehicle from moving if the manual transmission was left in the neutral position. The automatic adjuster within the hand brake may not work properly causing the hand brake lever to travel outside the recommended range. If the vehicle travels outside the recommended range, the vehicle may roll away and a crash may occur. Dealers will replace the existing automatic adjustment hand brake lever system on the affected vehicles with a manual hand brake lever system. The recall began on January 14, 2005. Owners should contact Jaguar at 1-800-452-4827.

New Car Test Drive Review
|

|
|
Summary:
|
Compact and affordable, but it's all Jag.
By Denise McCluggage, NewCarTestDrive.com
It comes to this: If you've always lusted after a Jaguar's feline mystery and elegance and thought that some day you should own one, but can't afford one of the pricier models, then "some day" may have arrived. Pricing for this newest of Jaguars has pulled that day in like a zoom lens. When you try one on be sure to search out some plate glass windows to mirror your passing. And reflect the sound of that engine. |
|
Overview:
|
Jaguar has introduced an all-new sedan for 2002 called the X-Type. Starting at $29,950, the X-Type is a major step downward in price for a Jaguar, and a big step upward in mass appeal. It's elegant, comfortable, and fun to drive. A new competitor in the tough foyer of compact luxury sedans, the X-Type is designed to compete with the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, and, to some extent, the Lexus IS 300. The new Jaguar compares favorably to these highly competent cars in performance figures, while offering a distinct difference in feel and temperament. No question, the Jaguar X-Type is a serious player. After driving it, we feel it's a great alternative to these other superb sedans.
