Identifix Reliability Ratings

Category: Comments: Rating:
Engine Occasional problems on this vehicle are failures of the Engine, Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor and the Air Fuel Ratio Sensors. Problems with the Engine are caused when the engine oil gels. Engine oil gelling can also cause excessive engine oil usage. When proper maintenance schedules for oil changes are followed, oil gelling should not occur. Toyota has issued an 8 year unlimited mileage goodwill repair for this condition. Failure of the MAF Sensor and Air Fuel Ratio Sensors can cause a drivability problem, and may cause the Check Engine Light to illuminate. On some vehicles the MAF Sensor can be cleaned, and it will not need replacement. The cost to repair the Engine is estimated at $4,500 for parts and $1,384 for labor. The cost to replace the MAF Sensor is estimated at $148.90 for parts and $58.50 for labor. The cost to repair the Air Fuel Ratio Sensors is estimated at $310.67 for each part and $78 for labor. An additional problem on this vehicle is the failure of the Evaporative (EVAP) Canister Closed Valve that is part of the Emission Controls. Problems with the Canister Closed Valve can cause the check engine light to illuminate. The cost to replace the Canister Vent Solenoid is estimated at $44.71 and $32.50 for labor. All prices are estimates based on $65 per flat rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax. Significant Problems

New Car Test Drive Review

Category: Review:
Summary:

A big sedan with Lexus quality and a Toyota price.
By Sam Moses, NewCarTestDrive.com

Toyota knows its Avalon buyers. It claims that a league-leading 51 percent of them buy another Avalon, plus another 26 percent move up to Lexus, or at least buy another Toyota. So maybe no attention-grabbing fanfare is needed. They'll discover the car, if they haven't already.

This is a great sedan, though it seems like the dignified styling could use a bit of swoop or flash to match the performance. We'd love to see a jet-black Avalon with a lowered nose and Vintage Red Pearl flames streaming from that toothy grin. But we may be the only ones who feel that way.

Overview:

The Avalon is Toyota's top of the line model. It's a big, comfortable sedan that feels quick on its feet; it's hard to tell just by looking at it, but the Avalon handles well and delivers a satisfying ride. When equipped with the available front bench seat, the Avalon can transport six passengers in typical Toyota comfort and quiet serenity.

As practical as the Avalon appears, it can be equipped with luxurious leather seats, handsome seven-spoke aluminum wheels, and a JBL sound system that rivals almost anything you can buy for your home. It offers a strong value among full-size sedans that deliver this level of luxury, performance, comfort and reliability for around $30,000 (fully equipped).
