Occasional problems on this vehicle are failures of the Engine, the Air Fuel Ratio Sensors and the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor. Failure of the Engine is caused because the engine oil gels. Engine oil gelling will also cause excessive engine oil usage. When proper maintenance schedules for oil changes are followed, oil gelling should not occur. Lexus has issued an 8 year, unlimited mileage, goodwill repair for this condition. Failure of the Air Fuel Ratio Sensor or the MAF Sensor will cause a drivability problem, or cause the Check Engine Light to illuminate. The cost to repair the Engine is estimated at $4,500 for parts and $1,384.50 for labor. The cost to repair the Air Fuel Ratio Sensors is estimated at $310.67 each for parts and $97.50 for labor. The cost to repair the MAF Sensor is estimated at $207.96 for parts and $32.50 for labor. All prices are estimates based on $65 per flat rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax.

But you might not find one with the balance of comfort, luxury, performance, refinement and quality finish as the ES 300. It's not hard to understand why this sedan is one of the best sellers in its class.If you're shopping for a $35,000 sedan, the ES 300 is worth a look, no matter your tastes or predilections. |

The ES 300 is the entry-level ticket to the Lexus experience. And all of the Lexus experience is here. The Lexus ES 300 is arguably the most refined automobile in the so-called near luxury class -- sedans that range in price from about $29,000 to $36,000. Athletic reflexes make it fun to drive. And it's an attractive car. For 2000, the ES 300 gets a minor styling update in the front end, plus host of safety, convenience, and luxury enhancements. It received a new powertrain for 1999. Throw in dealer satisfaction that's consistently rated among the very best, and the ES 300 proves tough for other car builders to match. Over the years the ES 300 has performed with such appliance-like efficiency that auto critics have made vague claims about its lack of soul. This could be another way for critics to say they couldn't find much wrong with the car.
