The National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) provides 3
different ratings -
full-width frontal crash test
,
side impact crash test
, and
rollover resistance
. The frontal crash test indicates how
well the safety features and restraints
will protect an occupant in a head-on
collision. The side-impact test conveys
the chance of a severe chest injury,
while the rollover resistance rating
estimates the risk of rolling over in a
single vehicle crash.

FUEL:FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM
Description:
Vehicle Description: Mini vans built with 3.3L and 3.8L engines have fuel rails with nitrole rubber o-ring seals that can degrade over time. Fuel leakage from the underhood fuel injection fuel rail could result, increasing the likelihood of a vehicle fire. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire. Dealers will install a seal on the vehicle fuel rails to prevent external leakage of fuel from the fuel rail crossover tube, should the existing O-rings continue to degrade. Owner notification began on January 25, 2002. Due to the large quantity of vehicles involved in this campaign, the owner notification will be phased over the next several months. However, if a vehicle is leaking fuel from the O-rings, the vehicle should be taken into a dealer to have this repaired as soon as possible. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact DaimlerChrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS
Description:
On certain minivans and 4x2 pickup trucks, the vehicle certification label may have gross axle weight ratings (GAWR) that exceed the maximum tire load capacity as defined in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 120, ""tire selection and rims for motor vehicles other than passenger cars."" Improperly loading your vehicle can cause tire failure and result in a crash. Owners will be provided with vehicle certification label overlays containing corrected information relative to vehicle GAWR and tire size. Owner notification began March 1, 2004. Owners should contact DaimlerChrysler at 1-800-992-1997.

AIR BAGS
Description:
On certain minivans, the drivers air bag may become disabled due to a failure of the clockspring, which is located in the hub of the steering wheel. This condition will manifest itself through illumination of the air bag warning lamp, and could eventually result in a drivers air bag open circuit, if the part is not replaced in a reasonable amount of time. Dealers will replace the clockspring assembly on all covered vehicles with 70,000 miles or less. For those vehicles with more than 70,000 miles, DaimlerChrysler will offer an extended lifetime warranty under which it will replace the clockspring at no charge if it fails. DaimlerChrysler will also reimburse owners who have paid to have the clockspring replaced on their vehicles. The recall began on October 12, 2004. Owners should contact DaimlerChrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

New Car Test Drive Review
Summary:
A best-seller for good reasons.
By Kevin Ransom, NewCarTestDrive.com
There are so many minivans on the market these days of varying sizes and configurations that the buyer almost always wins out. Minivan makers continue to offer more space, bigger engines, increased ride comfort and higher trim levels to lure buyers away from the competition.Chrysler popularized the modern minivan and continues to be on the leading edge of features, convenience and comfort. Its minivans, especially the Caravan, continue to be among the most popular. They also offer some of the best values in the minivan market. |
Overview:
Year after year, the Dodge Caravan is one of the top two or three best-selling minivans in America. Most years, it's been in the No. 1 spot. After all, what's not to like? Caravan and Grand Caravan outpace most of the minivan field when it comes to interior space, and it boasts a versatility that allows it to carry varying configuations of humans and cargo. The Dodge Caravan provides the kind of comfort, styling, ride quality and handling buyers have come to expect from the company that has dominated the minivan field since the early '80s. And, amazingly, for all of that, the Caravan is priced so that it's still one of the best buys in the minivan market. DaimlerChrysler knows there are many different types of minivan buyers out there, so the company offers a model to suit the tastes, needs and budget of every imaginable buyer. Buyers can choose from among short- and long-wheelbase versions to accommodate different lifestyles and space requirements. Chrysler Town & Country rides like a luxury sedan, while the Chrysler Voyager and Dodge Caravan are more value-conscious. The base Dodge Caravan doesn't skimp on the essentials, but is priced about $18,000 less than the Town & Country Limited. For 2000, some new colors were added to the palette--patriot blue, bright silver, inferno red, aquamarine and shale green.
