<p>The Chevrolet Blazer and GMC Jimmy were redesigned for the 1995 model year, the Oldsmobile Bravada was redesigned for 1996, and the GMC Envoy was introduced in 1998.</p>
Dummy movement wasn't well controlled. As the dummy moved into the airbag, its torso rolled off the bag toward the driver door. Its head hit the window sill, denting it, then hit the B-pillar. Also, there was too much upward movement of the steering column.
Measures taken from the chest and left leg indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the head when the dummy moved forward into the airbag indicate that injuries to the head would be possible. A high head acceleration occurred when the dummy's head hit the window sill/B-pillar, indicating that further injuries to the head would be possible. Forces on the right tibia and acceleration on the right foot indicate that injuries to the lower leg and foot would be possible.

Vehicle Description: Passenger vehicles, light duty trucks, sport utility vehicles, and mini vans equipped with TRW seat belt buckle assemblies. The buckle base of these seat belt assemblies were not properly heat treated and therefore do not pass the load bearing requirement of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 209, ""Seat Belt Assemblies."" In the event of a vehicle crash, the occupant may not be properly restrained. Dealers will inspect the vehicle's rear safety belt buckle assembly date codes and, if necessary, will replace any rear safety belt buckle assembly.

Vehicle Description: Pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles fail to comply with requirements of FMVSS No. 209, ""Seat Belt Assemblies."" Some of these trucks were built with a left-hand safety belt retractor that will not meet the retractor locking requirements of the standard. In the event of a crash, the seat occupant may not be properly restrained, increasing the risk of injury. GM has not yet provided the agency with a remedy.

Description:

Vehicle Description: Sport utility vehicles. The multifunction switch could develop an open circuit condition that results in the stop lamps and the rear hazard lamps becoming inoperative. The Center High Mounted Stop Lamp and turn signal functions are not affected. The loss of stop lamps and rear hazard lamps could fail to warn a following driver that the vehicle is braking and/or is stopped and could result in a crash. Dealers will replace the hazard switch carrier. Owner notification will be conducted in two phases. The first phase began April 15, 2002, with mailings to owners of 2000 and early 2001 vehicles. The second mailing phase will be to remaining 2001 and 2002 vehicles. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, GMC at 1-800-462-8782, or Oldsmobile at 1-800-442-6537.

The LT offers a long list of standard equipment popular with buyers, meaning no excuses in day to day use or when trading it in. Although with a list like the Blazer's, that day won't have to come too soon...unless it's to step into the Blazer's replacement. |

The Chevrolet Blazer has remained a mainstay of the midsize SUV market by providing durability, utility and, especially last year with the newly introduced Trailblazer, a touch of luxury appointments. Its traditional contours are overdue for reshaping.
