The National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) provides 3
different ratings -
full-width frontal crash test
,
side impact crash test
, and
rollover resistance
. The frontal crash test indicates how
well the safety features and restraints
will protect an occupant in a head-on
collision. The side-impact test conveys
the chance of a severe chest injury,
while the rollover resistance rating
estimates the risk of rolling over in a
single vehicle crash.

EQUIPMENT:TIRE RESERVE LOAD LABEL (GLOVE COMPARTMENT)
Description:
Certain light duty pickup trucks equipped with a Heavy Duty Service Package fail to comply with the requirements of FMVSS No. 120, ""Tire Selection and rims for Motor Vehicles other than Passenger Cars."" A typographical error occurred resulting in an incorrect tire size and pressure on the safety certification label for these vehicles. If the tires are inflated to the pressure indicated on the label, the customer will experience a harsher ride. Owners will be sent a corrected tire information label and installation instructions. The customer may also have the dealer install the label on the vehicle, if they so desire. Owner notification began December 20, 2001. Owners who do not receive the free label and installation instructions within a reasonable time should contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Description:
On certain pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles equipped with speed control, the speed control deactivation switch may overheat, smoke, or burn. A fire at the switch could occur. By letter dated September 12, 2005, owners were instructed to return their vehicles to their dealers to have the speed control deactivation switch disconnected. Owners who have had their speed control deactivated are being notified that parts will be available and advised to make an appointment to reconnect the speed control beginning in February 2006. Owners who did not have their speed control deactivated are being notified to have their system remedied beginning in February 2006. Owners are urged to avail themselves of the free disconnect service as soon as possible because of the significant risk of fire. Owners may contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673.

Vehicle Description: Motor home chassis. The accelerator cable is susceptible to freezing. Water can accumulate in the end fitting and can freeze at temperatures of 32 degrees Fahrenheit and below. The ice could prevent the accelerator from returning to idle. Increased stopping distance would be required, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the accelerator cable with a revised accelerator cable.

Description:
Vehicle Description: 4x4 vehicles with Off Road and High FGAWR option packages, and 4x2 vehicles with Sport option package. The tire and rim identification information is incorrect on the certification labels for these vehicles. This does not meet the requirements of FMVSS No. 120, ""Tire Selection and Rims for Motor Vehicles other than Passenger Cars."" If incorrect tire information is given, underrated tires could be placed on the truck causing excessive tire wear or, in extreme cases, possible tire blowouts. FUEL:THROTTLE LINKAGES AND CONTROL
Description:
Vehicle Description: Super duty trucks and chassis-cabs equipped with 5.4L manual transmission powertrains. The accelerator cable core wire can wear the cable conduit end fitting due to a fifteen degree angle it makes with the conduit at the throttle body end. This could also lead to wear or separation of strands of the core wire, which could prevent the throttle from returning to the idle position. A ""stuck"" throttle could adversely affect vehicle control. Dealers will replace the accelerator cable and throttle body.

New Car Test Drive Review
Summary:
The trendiest of the trucks.
By Don Fuller, NewCarTestDrive.com
It's a little bit of a contradiction in terms to think of "truck" in the same sentence with "cutting edge, aerodynamic styling," but with the Ford F-Series, we think it works. Style is a matter of personal taste, of course, and you may prefer the traditional look of the Chevrolet or GMC offerings, or the macho, rugged big-rig appearance of the Dodge Ram. But the Ford is certainly the sleekest of the bunch. There's a lot to like about it in addition to the look. The interior is extraordinary, the Triton V8s are silky and strong, the ride and drive is exceptional and it's full to the brim with worthwhile features. We don't see how you could go wrong. |
Overview:
Ford's F-Series pickups are proof that barnyard workhorse trucks will never be their squared-off selves again. Aerodynamic outside, luxurious inside, overhead-cam performance under the hood, and safety and convenience features that only a few years ago weren't available on cars, let alone trucks, the Ford F-Series pickups are as modern as trucks get. For 1999, the F-Series trucks sport a revised front-end appearance with big new grilles, valance panels and chrome bumpers. Four doors are now standard on all extended cab models.
