The National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) provides 3
different ratings -
full-width frontal crash test
,
side impact crash test
, and
rollover resistance
. The frontal crash test indicates how
well the safety features and restraints
will protect an occupant in a head-on
collision. The side-impact test conveys
the chance of a severe chest injury,
while the rollover resistance rating
estimates the risk of rolling over in a
single vehicle crash.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
|
|
Description:
|
On certain sedans, coupes, hatchbacks, and sport utility vehicles, electrical contacts in the ignition switch can degrade due to the high electrical current passing through the switch when the vehicle is started. Worn contacts could cause the engine to stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the ignition switch. Owner notification began June 14, 2002. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009 or Acura at 1-800-382-2238.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
|
|
Description:
|
On certain passenger vehicles and minivans; the ignition switch may wear excessively and prevent proper interlock operation, making it possible to turn the ignition key to the ""off"" position and remove the key without shifting the transmission to park. If the vehicle operator does not shift to park before removing the key and fails to engage the parking brake, the vehicle could roll and a crash could occur. Dealers will perform an inspection procedure that determines the amount of cylinder body wear. If significant wear is indicated, the dealer will replace the cylinder body, collar and latch plate. If no signs of wear are indicated, dealers will replace the latch plate with a redesigned part. Owner notification is expected to begin during November 2003. Owners should contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009 or Acura at 1-800-382-2238.

New Car Test Drive Review

|
|
Summary:
|
An affordable luxury sedan with spirit.
By Mitch McCullough, Editor-in-Chief, NewCarTestDrive.com
When the price is a factor -- and it always is -- the Acura 3.2 TL compares very well to the Lexus ES 300, Infiniti I30, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4.With its 225-horsepower V6, the Acura 3.2 TL is a solid luxury sports sedan. Its suspension strikes a good balance between handling and a luxurious, well-controlled ride. We think Mr. Honda would have approved. |
|
Overview:
|
This car has spirit. Perhaps it's the spirit of Soichiro Honda in this all-new Acura 3.2 TL. Mr. Honda died in 1992, but officials from American Honda's Acura Division say the TL embodies his philosophies of performance, styling, luxury and value. He strived for perfection in all his cars and many of them were significant mileposts in the history of the automobile. We found some of this spirit in British Columbia's Cascade Mountains high above Chateau Whistler. Extremely stable at high speeds, the Acura 3.2 TL encourages its driver to bend it around fast sweeping turns with confidence. Completely redesigned and re-engineered for 1999, Acura's 3.2 TL comes with a powerful new 3.2-liter V6 engine, a nicely balanced new suspension, a rigid new chassis and fresh styling.
