Toyota Camry Solara

The mid-sized Toyota Camry Solara is a sportier version of the staid Camryy. As a used vehicle, you can find it as an affordable ragtop convertible or roomy coupe, last on the market in 2008. Aimed squarely at professionals that longed for a sports car but wanted the practicality that comes with being a reliable, well built, and conservatively styled, the Solara just might be the car for you. While never cutting edge in the style department, the Solara does offer a smooth and fuel efficient 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder engine. USED TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA REVIEWS

2004 Toyota Camry Solara
Very good car. Like the power of the V-6. It is my Daughter's daily driver.

Model Overview

Designed to have the quietest engine and smoothest ride possible, the Solara is sleeker, sportier and better-handling than the regular Camry sedan. Toyota first introduced the Solara in 1999 as a coupe (with the convertible launched in 200) and discontinued it in 2008. Toyota's entry in the sport specialty segment for 199 came with a 2.2 liter I-4 engine putting out 135 horsepower. It got an EPA-estimated 23 miles per gallon in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway. You will find three trim options, the SE two door coupe, the SE V6 two door coupe, and the SLE two door coupe with standard options including powered seats, air conditioning, five-speed transmission with overdrive, front fog/driving lights, remote keyless entry, and steel wheels. If you are in the market for additional features you can upgrade to the SLE model to get ABS brakes, driveline traction control and automatic front air conditioning.

The 2000 Solara offers more features and upgradable options. The sedan seats 5, with three people fitting snuggly in the back seat, while the convertible seats just two passengers. It comes equipped with either a four-cylinder or V6 engine, and is either a five-speed manual or four-speed electronically controlled transmission. This model year offers an upgrade package that includes 16-inch wheels and tires, a better more controlled suspension tune, a rear spoiler, and a perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel.

In 2004 the Camry Solara got a complete redesign. It can be distinguished by its sleek new exterior design, roomier cargo, more luxurious interior, higher level of performance, and enhanced safety features, which include the following: vehicle anti-theft system, power door locks, ABS brakes, driver airbag, front side airbag, passenger airbag, power windows, trunk anti-trap device, and keyless entry.

Thee 2008 Solara has three different trim levels: the SE, the Sport, and the SLE. The base model, the SE, has many standard features that are appealing to drivers. The Sport has a sportier look than the base model, and it offers several upgrades and additions. The SLE is the most luxurious version of the car, with extras including wood grain interior trim and plush seat coverings. It is equipped with a 2.4 liter I4 engine that puts out 155 horsepower. It has favorable fuel efficiency at 21 miles per gallon in the city and 31 miles per gallon on the highway. Some of the standard features include air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, and power seats.

The interior boasts a lot of comfort and convenience features including the following: cruise control, tilt steering, steering wheel mounted controls, telescopic steering column, tire inflation/pressure monitor, trip computer, a radio, a CD player and changer, second row folding seat, and front power lumbar support. Additionally, you can get a Solara that has optional upgrades on it such as a power sunroof, a manual sunroof, a cargo net, leather seating, front heated seats, and driver-multi-adjustable power seating.

Although the 2008 model year was the last for the Solara, there are still many used cars sold today with good resell value, and they still have all of the style and charm they held from when they were first put on the showroom floor. Resell value on the Camry Solara is good. The Solara offers a fun and stylish ride with the reliability of a Camry.

Safety

Safety features include driver airbags, passenger airbags, side airbags, ABS brakes, a vehicle anti-theft system, power door locks, a trunk anti-trap device, and a keyless entry remote.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2008 Solara five (out of five) stars for driver front, passenger front, front side, and rear side crash tests.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2004-2008 Solara Good for Moderate Front Overlap and Acceptable for side impact.
