Used Saturn VUE: In Depth

2004 Saturn VUE
I purchased the 2004 Saturn Vue with a 155,450.miles. I use this vehicle as a second car for short trips and running errands. It has been a very dependable car so far. It great on gas economy and the ride will get a lot better when I install front struts.

Classified as a compact crossover SUV, the Saturn VUE was introduced in the 2002 model year. The body style stayed quite similar until late in the first generation. This was the first major overhaul of the exterior design. The next VUE overhaul took place during the second generation release of the 2008 model year. The majority of the changes were made to the front and rear bumper assemblies, grills, and lights. Added curvatures to the rear portion of the body were also made for a sleeker look. A hybrid model, known as the Green Line, was re-introduced for the 2010 model year.

With comfortable seating for a family of five, the 2010 Saturn VUE gets an estimated 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. This is a favorable fuel mileage for an SUV. Any of the trim packages can be equipped with either the 4-cylinder or V6 engine with the 4-cylinder engine offering 169 horsepower. For this vehicle, the XE trim package is considered to be the base model. The XR trim package has several upgrade options to change the package name slightly. The most basic XR trim package is where the V6 engine was found to be the most popular engine choice among VUE consumers. The XR-L and XR-L V6 are very similar with just a few additional luxury options and interior selections being available.

Some of the most attractive features for the Saturn VUE include a compass, low tire pressure warning system, and anti-whiplash headrests in the front. For rear passengers, an anti-roll bar is in place for added safety. A standard 6-speaker audio system is installed in all trim packages along with an MP3 decoder and radio data system. The rear of the vehicle features a wiper and rear defroster, which comes in handy during the winter months.

There are some valuable security features that are standard on all trim packages for the 2010 VUE. An ignition disable feature can be activated when owners are away to prevent theft. A security system and panic alarm are also standard along with perimeter, approaching lights that make the vehicle appear occupied.

Growing families and business professionals can benefit from the amount of storage in the rear section of the 2010 Saturn VUE. Families have plenty of room for strollers, camping gear and groceries. Salespeople have enough room for signage and promotional materials. It is easy to drive with the inclusion of power steering and traction control and front bucket seats help to make front passengers more comfortable. Worrying about when to turn on headlights is a thing of the past in the VUE as there are sensors built-in that automatically tell the headlights to turn on.

The 2010 Saturn VUE has several items in place to increase safety, including several strategically placed air bags. They are located at the front of the vehicle for the driver and passenger as well as along the sides for rear passengers. Additional air bags are in place for head protection in the front and rear. ABS brakes and 4-wheel disc brakes add to the safety features for added control on slick roadways. Completing the safety package are automatic headlights, daytime running lamps, and traction control. In crash tests performed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, the 2010 Saturn VUE received 5 out of 5 stars for driver and passenger frontal crash safety and driver and passenger side impact crash safety. In testing for rollover resistance, the SUV received 4 out of 5 stars.

As your search for a quality VUE begins, consider viewing the history of the vehicle along with the changes to the body style. This will also help you to see the progression of the vehicle prior to its discontinuation. The last model year, 2010, offered the most equipment under the hood and inside the vehicle and was the most stylish. It also included upgrades to the performance, handling and overall safety of the SUV with added fuel economy.

In conclusion, the 2010 Saturn VUE is an ideal option for a growing family when budget and fuel economy are major factors in the SUV-buying process. Find out more about the Saturn VUE and similar vehicles on
