Pontiac G6

Derived from Pontiac's well-known muscle car, the Grand Am, the G6 is a mid-size sedan manufactured from 2004 to 2009. It drew lots of attention when, as a publicity stunt, Oprah Winfrey gave out G6 vehicles to her entire audience during a fall 2004 taping of her show. If you are looking for a strong and sturdy mid-size four door sedan, carfax.com provides information about the Pontiac G6 including automobile specifications as well as unique vehicle history attributes available only from CARFAX.

Used Pontiac G6: In Depth

MODEL OVERVIEW

When it was launched, the Pontiac G6 with its 3.5-liter V6 engine was meant to compete in the sporty four-door sedan market. The two-door G6 coupes and convertibles rolled out in 2006, offering a stylish alternative with plenty of power. Four-speed transmissions were standard for all models except for the GTP, which came with a 6-speed manual transmission option.

With a super-charged 3.5-liter V6 engine, the 2009 G6 can provide 164 hp at 6400 rpm. When researching the pre-owned Pontiac G6's, see if you can find 2009 or 2010 models. These years saw a major design both inside and out. Body style options include sedan, coupe, and convertible and consumers can choose between four-cylinder or V6 engine and manual versus automatic transmission. Additional options for these model years include an audio system with theft-deterring locks and speed-adjusted volume and chrome accents for visual appeal.

Remote ignition via key fob allows you to warm up the car from inside your house before going out into the cold morning. The plush interior with room for five includes a full-size seatback and a long rear bench with plenty of leg room. Additional options include a sunroof and pushed-out wheels. And even though the G6 is no longer manufactured, pre-owned Pontiac G6's might still be under a 100,000 mile/5 year transferable warranty.

PONTIAC G6 SAFETY RATINGS

The Pontiac G6 has a good safety record. Automobile Magazine listed the Pontiac G6 on the 50 Great New Cars List for 2007, in part for its safety features such as front airbags for driver and passenger as well as side-mounted and overhead airbags. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2009 G6 a “Good” rating (its highest mark) for overall safety in an offset crash test.
