The 2014 Honda Odyssey has been redesigned both inside and out to make the minivan a more appealing option to families who do not want to sacrifice style for utility. New exterior upgrades like a rear roofline spoiler with an integrated brake light gives the minivan an edgier, SUV-like backend while new alloy wheel and sleeker edges up the sophistication quotient.
The 2014 Honday Oddyssey comes in five trims: the LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Touring Elite. The LX comes standard with an i-MID with an eight-inch high-resolution WVGA screen and customizable feature settings, a backup camera with guidelines, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, cruise control, illuminated steering wheel-mounted cruise, audio, phone, and i-MID controls, 12v power outlets in the front and cargo areas, One-Motion 60/40 split third row Magic seats that allow you to simply pull on a strap at the back of the seat so it will fold flat to increase cargo space, remote entry system, and an audio system with 7 speakers and Pandora streaming capability.
The Odyssey EX comes with a few extras worth mentioning like a Tri-Zone automatic climate control system that has both humidity control and air filtration. The Honda LaneWatch, which alerts you if you start to drift into another lane without signaling, push button start, HondaLink featuring AHA capability (see NOTEWORTHY section for more details) and power sliding doors.
The EX-L packs on the safety features with the Forward Collision Warning system, Lane Departure Warning system, and interior design upgrades like leather trimmed and heated front seats, a one-touch power moonroof with a tilt feature, a power tailgate, perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a “cool box" in the center stack that keeps your drinks cool on the go. Additional options like a DVD Rear entertainment system and Satellite-Linked navigation system with voice recognition are also available.
The Touring is yet another step up with exterior design upgrades like 18” alloy wheels fog lights, and body-colored side mirrors with integreated LED turn indicators and expanded view driver's mirror. The interior does not get left out either and includes more high-end details like an illuminated steering wheel-mounted cruise, audio, phone, MID, i-MID, and navigation controls.
Finally, the Honda Odyssey Touring Elite is your trim if you want your minivan with all of the bells and whistles that Honda has to offer: the DVD Ultrawide rear entertainment system with HDMI and HD WGVA screen, blind spot information system, an audio system with a Surround Sound Theater Mode, HD radio, and for the first time ever, a built-in vacuum called the HondaVAC which makes keeping your car free of crushed Cheerios and crumpled gum wrappers easier than ever. No longer does your minivan need to be synonymous with cleanup disaster!
2014 HONDA ODYSSEY SAFETY RATING
Honda prides itself on its commitment to not only keep you and your passengers safe in the event of an accident but also in helping minimize damage to other vehicles and pedestrians that may be around if something happens. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named the Odyssey a Top Safety Pick for 2014 by ranking it #1 in minivans.
Most importantly the Odyssey is equipped with multiple-threshold, dual-stage airbags. In the event of a frontal impact one or both of the airbags will inflate. These airbags are able to deploy at different rates depending upon the severity of the crash and can take into account crash severity and seat belt usage to ensure that the airbags deploy when you need them and where you need them. SmartVent airbags are a front-side airbags that can sense if an object is in the deployment path and tailor its levels of deployment to keep you safe and help prevent airbag-related injuries.
NOTEWORTHY ABOUT THE 2014 HONDA ODYSSEY
Two new noteworthy features for the 2014 Honda Odyssey are the inclusion of the first ever, integrated in-car vacuum and an update to the HondaLink infotainment system. The HondaVAC, aside from being every parent’s dream come true, is housed in the rear of the vehicle with a hose long enough to reach every nook and cranny from front to back—it also includes two attachments and a removable waste bin.
The HondaLink infotainment system has been updated to feature AHA compatibility. From a "green" perspective, the V6 engine of the Odyssey also meets California’s Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle standards for light trucks.
The Honda Odyssey also received ratings of “among the best” by J.D. Power in Powertrain Quality—Mechanical and Design, Overall Performance and Design, Performance, Features, Style, and Owner-Report Fuel Economy.
