The Escape has earned an 8.5 out of 10 Safety rating as well as widespread consumer appreciation for its powerful engine, athletic driving dynamics, and fuel efficiency. A five-seater with an optional all-wheel drive, the Escape is ideal for the weekday commuter and the weekend adventurer. Its eco-friendly features include soybean-derived seat cushions, EcoBoost engine, and carpet produced with postindustrial and postconsumer fibers from recycled plastic bottles. The original, non-hybrid Escape, introduced in 2000, was jointly developed with Mazda to offer consumers seeking an SUV with a car-like design. The second generation of Escapes were redesigned in 2009 to keep current with compact SUV designs of the time. The current, Third Generation includes the MyFord Touch information system, a hands-free liftgate that lets you open it with your foot, and a keyless entry system.
The 2014 Escape is available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive as well as with an optional towing package that can haul up to 3,500 pounds (if powered by the V-6 engine). A 2013 Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the 2013 Ford Escape earned the rating of “Good” in side impact, roof strength, and head restraints. With seven airbags, a rollover traction control, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes, and electronic stability control, the Escape will appeal to safety-minded drivers.
