Used Dodge Journey: In Depth

MODEL OVERVIEW

The 2009 Dodge Journey was launched in 2008. This vehicle works well for families, due to the comfortable seating and optional rear-seat entertainment option that keeps the kids occupied during road trips or on the way to school or sports practice. The USB port lets your children plug in an MP3 player, and enjoy their favorite music. Meanwhile, the optional navigation system guides you toward your destination while the young ones are entertained.

For the 2011 model, Dodge decided to make some changes. For the most part, the exterior remained the same. Dodge focused on the interior and the suspension. If your main focus is the driving experience, you'll want to keep your eyes open for any 2011 models or newer. Dodge paid close attention to improving the inside of the car, which let the well-designed seating and structure of the interior shine. The improved stereo system and optional entertainment system offers an outlet for your children to relax during long trips that would otherwise test their patience. The 8.4-inch touchscreen display is compatible with both movies and video game systems, expanding the possibilities for your young ones to enjoy their trip to the fullest. And if you're in a trim with heated leather seats, you and your passengers will be completely relaxed during the trip while the children enjoy a movie or video game.

Dodge Journey Safety Rating

Since its creation, the Dodge Journey scored as high as possible on every test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The IIHS provides four ratings: good, acceptable, marginal, and poor.

In the front moderate overlap test, which simulates a vehicle crashing into the driver's side of the car, every model year earned a "good" rating. The side test determines whether passengers on the side of the vehicle are likely to survive a direct crash. A roof strength test determines how much force the roof of a vehicle can handle before it collapses, and the head restraints and seats test determines how well these safety items protect passengers in the rear seats of a car in the event of a crash. Again, the Journey received a "good" rating every year for the roof strength test. However, the head restraints and seats test was only conducted on 2010 to 2014 models; every model year received a "good" rating.

Noteworthy About the Dodge Journey

For the 2014 Dodge Journey, Dodge improved the engine as well as the fuel efficiency. The New Journey gets over 500 miles per tank, which is a testament to the well-designed engine. Additional features including satellite radio, Wi-Fi, and concert-quality sound ensure everyone enjoys the ride. And with the optional GPS system, you'll never be lost again. If you can't find your way back to familiar ground through the use of the device, an emergency feature notifies you of your exact GPS coordinates and tells you where the nearest hospitals, fuel stations, and police stations are. With three rows of seating, the Journey can seat seven people. Folding down the back row reveals 67.6 cubic feet of cargo space, perfect for storing items if you're going on vacation.
