Used Chevrolet Tahoe: In Depth

Model Overview

The Chevrolet Tahoe has been touted as “the sport utility with style.” With recent upgrades to both the interior and exteriors the Tahoe now comes in three trims: LS, LT, and LTZ. The LS is the base model with seating for up to nine passengers, four-wheel drive, remote vehicle start system, OnStar®, rear vision camera, Bluetooth® technology, and rear park assist. The LT adds heated front bucket seats (reducing seating capacity to 8), an automatic tri-zone climate system, and a Bose® nine speaker surround sound system. Finally, the LTZ is the luxury model with added features like heated and cooled front row leather seats, heated second row seats, heated steering wheel, Bose® Centerpoint 10 speaker surround sound system, touch screen navigation, and more. Kids will appreciate the entertainment system, including a first row LCD monitor, and multiple plugs for electronics. Parents will appreciate luxury extras like a heated steering wheel and automatic liftgate.

Available in both rear-wheel and four-wheel drive, the Tahoe has a towing capacity of up to 8,500 lbs. for the 2WD models and up to 8,200 lbs. for the 4WD models. The Tahoe also features the Vortec 5.3-liter V8 engine with 320 horsepower and 335 lb./ft. of torque. The Active Fuel Management™ system deactivates fuel delivery in lighter-load conditions. When combined with the Vortec engine, this gives the Tahoe an EPA-estimated 21 mpg highway—an impressive number if you’re looking to take your family over the river and through the woods.

For all of its rugged good looks the Tahoe doesn’t slack off when it comes to its refined interior design. Previous models of the Tahoe do not feature fold-flat third row seats but all three 2015 models will come with fold-flat second and third rows—available with an option for power-controlled folding. Second row passengers have a bit more room to stretch out as two inches have been added to increase legroom. Your technology fans will also be happy to note that the interior sports several USB ports and power outlets to keep everyone charged and ready for family road trips. Other interior features include overhead storage console, illuminated entry, SiriusXM® satellite radio, navigation service by OnStar®, and a first row LCD monitor.

One stand-out feature is connectivity via the myChevrolet app. With the myChevrolet app uploaded to your smart phone you can check diagnostics, contact roadside assistance, schedule routine maintenance and more.

Chevrolet Tahoe Safety

The Tahoe series comes with a few modern-day safety upgrades that are standard on both the 2WD and 4WD such as an electronic stability control system with traction control, 4-wheel antilock brakes, Proactive Roll Avoidance and a tire pressure monitor. Other features include six standard airbags, a steel safety cage, and OnStar® Automatic Crash response. Other standard safety features include panic alarm, security system, ignition disable, and ABS brakes. J.D. Power and Associates gives the Tahoe a 5 out of 5 for “Overall Quality,” “Body and Interior Quality,” and “Features and Accessories.”

Noteworthy of the Chevrolet Tahoe

The 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe was named “#1 in Affordable Large SUVs” and “#1 in Affordable SUV's” by the US and World Report News as well as a 4 out of 5 stars in “Overall Rating” by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Fun Fact: the 2006 model was launched with the help of the TV show “The Apprentice.” Contestants were tasked with putting together an event for Chevrolet’s employees to familiarize them with the new, made-over model. A coinciding contest allowed anyone access and encouraged them to create their own commercial for the model with the possibility of their spot airing on TV.

We have recently used CARFAX to find my Tahoe. Because it verified what the owner said and the history (it is a 1999) showed no damages or "funny stuff" with the title or mileage, we bought and now enjoy a very nice ride.
