The Chevy Equinox is Chevrolet’s premier crossover utility vehicle (CUV). The line debuted in 2005 and currently comes in eight different models: LS FWD, LS AWD, 1LT FWD, 1LT AWD, 2LT FWD, 2LT AWD, LTZ FWD, and LTZ AWD. The line received a facelift in 2013, so the newest 2014 models do not trumpet many new features with the exception of new exterior color options. That being said the Equinox has plenty of features that are standard and optional to the 2014 models.
The exterior of the Equinox is all SUV with a wide, rugged nose and a design that helps reduce wind drag and boost efficiency. Wheel options include the standard 17” aluminum wheels (LS and LT) up to 19” chrome-clad aluminum wheels (LTZ V6). This CUV does not shirk responsibility when it comes to towing. It can tow up to 3,500 pounds which is perfect for that small trailer that holds all of your camping equipment. The Equinox also comes with two engine choices: the 2.4L DOHC 4-cylinder engines comes standard and offers an EPA-estimated MPG of 22 city and 32 highway and the 3.6L V6 engine which delivers 301 horsepower and 272 lbs. per ft. of torque.
The interior has 63.7 cubic feet of cargo space and with the available programmable power liftgate that you can customize to clear the height of your garage door, you’ll be able to easily remover your gear. The Equinox has also improved its comfort level by increasing the rear-seat legroom to 39.9 inches. The back seat slides making it easier to stretch out and giving the cabin a more spacious feel.
The Equinox also has something for the tech-savvy driver. The new Siri Eyes Free feature allows you to text on the go with a voice-activated system. Using MyLink™ you can use Bluetooth® technology to interact with your smartphone while keeping your eyes on the road. Every Equinox comes standard with a USB port and also offers options like Autonet Mobile Wi-Fi to keep you and your passengers connected to the internet, a Pioneer premium sound system with an 8-speaker, 250 watt sound system, and SiriusXM® satellite radio. The RemoteLink key, a component of OnStar®, is an app on your smartphone that allows you to lock or unlock your Equinox as well as remote start and flash horns and lights for those moments when you cannot quite remember where you parked.
Standard features on the Equinox include air conditioning, power windows, remote keyless entry, emergency communication system, speed control, illuminated entry, MP3 decoder, CD player, 6 speakers, steering wheel mounted audio controls, a max seating capacity of 5, a trip computer, and outside temperature display.
