2005 to 2011: Cadillac STS

Initially introduced as a 2005 model, the STS replaced the outgoing Cadillac Seville as an athletic, full-size model in the Cadillac lineup. Early STS models were offered in V6, V6 AWD, V8 and V8 AWD trims. In later years, V6 models were offered in Luxury Sport, Luxury and Premium trims, while the V8-powered STS was available in Luxury and Performance editions.

The base STS initially came with a 3.6-liter engine that produces 255 horsepower. Rear-wheel drive and a five-speed automatic transmission were standard, while a 320-horsepower 4.6-liter V8 and all-wheel drive were available as options. A six-speed automatic transmission was introduced on the V8-powered 2007 STS, while an upgraded 302-horsepower V6 became standard starting with the 2008 model. In its final year of production, the V8 engine was dropped from the options list.

A high-performance STS-V model was introduced for 2006 and sold through 2009. This model features a supercharged 4.4-liter V8 engine that produces 469 horsepower. A six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard on all STS-V models.

Regardless of which model year you choose, the Cadillac STS seats five and offers 13.8 cubic feet of trunk space. Common standard features include power-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, remote start and the OnStar telematics system. For 2009, Cadillac added Bluetooth to the list of standard equipment. A suite of air bags, anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control are standard on all models.

Depending on the model year, optional features can include navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and a sunroof.

The Cadillac STS can be cross-shopped with a number of luxury large cars, including the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series, Hyundai Genesis, Infiniti M, Lexus GS and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
