Following the move to a new job, my wife needed a car to drive to work. She needed one that suited the New England weather, which meant one that had AWD/4WD/4×4. We bought a 5 item CARFAX just in case we needed the extra checks.
The first car we checked out was a 2001 Suzuki Esteem Wagon, which only had 29,000 miles on it and a seemingly clean CARFAX. Suspiciously, however, the CARFAX report said that there was no record of this car after 2003. When we checked the car the man did not have its title. He said that he bought it from an auction and that someone had abandoned it in 2003. We decided that there were too many problems and did not do the deal.
We checked out a second car. This time it was a 2001 Suzuki Vitara 4×4 that only had 51,000 miles on it. This car’s records were scrupulously maintained, so we went and checked out the car. The SUV was in great condition. It looked clean and was nice to drive, and had belonged to a lady who was a writer.
Although she was a hard bargainer, we were able to negotiate a fair price for the car. Thanks to CARFAX we now have a nice SUV with many miles to go – in our driveway.
