Just say, Show Me the CARFAX!

This CARFAX Vehicle History Report is based only on information supplied to CARFAX and available as of 8/25/16 at 1:32:43 PM (EDT). Other information about this vehicle, including problems, may not have been reported to CARFAX. Use this report as one important tool, along with a vehicle inspection and test drive, to make a better decision about your next used car.

Airbag Deployment
Occurs when the driver, passenger or side airbag has been used or deployed during a crash or other incident. If an airbag has been deployed, it must be replaced by a qualified technician. Have this car inspected by a mechanic prior to purchase.

Rebuilt/Reconstructed Title
A Rebuilt/Reconstructed vehicle is a salvage vehicle that has been repaired and restored to operation. These vehicles are often severely damaged before they are rebuilt and refurbished parts are typically used during reconstruction. In most states, an inspection of the vehicle is required before the vehicle is allowed to return to the road.
Not Actual Mileage Title
When the seller certifies, under the Federal Odometer Act, that the odometer reading does not reflect the vehicle's actual mileage. This may occur because the odometer was tampered with, broken, or replaced.

Flood Damage Title
States issue flood titles when a vehicle has been in a flood or has received extensive water damage.

Accident / Damage Indicator
Various events could indicate an accident or damage in a vehicle's history, such as: salvage auction, fire damage, police-reported accident, crash test vehicle, damage disclosure, collision repair facility and automotive recycler records. See the glossary for more information.

Junk Title
A Junk Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds approximately 75% of its pre-damage value. This damage threshold may vary by state. The majority of states use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage.

Structural Damage
All levels of accidents, from minor to severe, can cause structural damage to a vehicle (i.e., damage to the frame or unibody).

Loss Due To Fire Title
The vehicle sustained major damage due to fire. In most states, fire damage titles are issued when the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value.

Manufacturer Buyback or Lemon Title
A DMV or a state agency marks an official document or issues a Manufacturer Buyback/Lemon title when a vehicle has been repurchased by the manufacturer. Not all states issue manufacturer buyback titles and the specific requirements for a lemon law vehicle varies by state.

Accident / Damage Indicator
Various events could indicate an accident or damage in a vehicle's history, such as: salvage auction, fire damage, police-reported accident, crash test vehicle, damage disclosure, collision repair facility and automotive recycler records. See the glossary for more information.

Exceeds Mechanical Limits Title
A vehicle with a 5-digit odometer cannot accurately track mileage after 99,999 miles because the odometer rolls over. This title is the result of a seller certifying under the Federal Odometer Act, that the odometer reading EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS of the odometer.

Dismantled Title
The vehicle sustained major damage to one or more major component parts and the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value. When a Dismantled title is issued, the vehicle may be used only for parts or scrap metal. It cannot be re-titled or returned to the road.

Odometer Check
CARFAX analyzes mileage data to help identify potential:
  • Rollbacks - odometer tampering to conceal a car's true mileage (i.e. Fraud or illegal activity)
  • Rollovers - after reaching the maximum reading, the odometer restarts from zero (i.e. Mechanical or equipment limitation)
  • Inconsistencies - conflicting mileage data means CARFAX cannot determine if it's a potential rollback (i.e. Potential human error)

Airbag Deployment
Occurs when the driver, passenger or side airbag has been used or deployed during a crash or other incident. If an airbag has been deployed, it must be replaced by a qualified technician. Have this car inspected by a mechanic prior to purchase.
Total Loss
An insurance or fleet company declares a vehicle a total loss when a claim exceeds approximately 75% of its pre-damage value or if the vehicle is stolen and not recovered. This damage threshold varies by company. These companies typically take possession and obtain the title. Not all total loss vehicles result in a DMV-reported branded title, like a Salvage or Junk title. See the glossary for more information.

Manufacturer Recall
Automobile manufacturers issue recall notices to inform owners of car defects that have come to the manufacturer's attention. Recalls also suggest improvements that can be made to improve the safety of a particular vehicle. Most manufacturer recalls can be repaired at no cost to you.

Recall # 122
BRAKE TUBE REPLACEMENT
Status: Remedy Available

Click here or call 1-800-633-5151 to locate an authorized Hyundai dealer near you to obtain more information about this recall.

Description: HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY (HYUNDAI) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 SONATA VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM DECEMBER 11, 2009, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 1, 2010. THE AFFECTED VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE A BRAKE FLUID LEAK FROM THE TWO BRAKE LINES THAT CONNECT THE BRAKE SYSTEM'S MASTER CYLINDER TO THE HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (HECU) DUE TO INSUFFICIENT SEAL BETWEEN THE INNER BRAKE HOSE AND METAL BRAKE LINE FITTING.

IF THE BRAKE LINES LEAK SUFFICIENT BRAKE FLUID, THE BRAKE WARNING LAMP IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WILL ILLUMINATE AND LONGER STOPPING DISTANCE WILL BE REQUIRED, INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.

Remedy: HYUNDAI WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE HOSES WITH A REVISED SERVICE PART, FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN BY THE END OF SEPTEMBER 2014. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-855-671-3059. HYUNDAI'S NUMBER FOR THIS RECALL IS 122.

AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT LEVER
Status: Remedy Available

Click here or call 1-800-633-5151 to locate an authorized Hyundai dealer near you to obtain more information about this recall.

Description: HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY (HYUNDAI) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011-2014 SONATA VEHICLES MANUFACTURED DECEMBER 11, 2009, THROUGH MAY 29, 2014. IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE MAY DETACH FROM FROM THE SHIFT LEVER PIN.

IF THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE DETACHES, THE TRANSMISSION GEAR SELECTION MAY NOT MATCH THE INDICATED GEAR AND THE VEHICLE MAY MOVE IN AN UNINTENDED OR UNEXPECTED DIRECTION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. FURTHERMORE, WHEN THE DRIVER PARKS THE VEHICLE, DESPITE SELECTING THE 'PARK' POSITION, THE TRANSMISSION MAY NOT BE IN 'PARK.' IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN THE 'PARK' POSITION AND THE PARKING BRAKE IS NOT APPLIED, THERE IS A RISK THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL AWAY AS THE DRIVER AND OTHER OCCUPANTS EXIT THE VEHICLE OR ANYTIME THEREAFTER. A VEHICLE ROLLAWAY INCREASES THE RISK OF INJURY TO EXITING OCCUPANTS AND BYSTANDERS.

Remedy: HYUNDAI WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND, AS NECESSARY, REPAIR THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE SHIFT CABLE AND SHIFT LEVER, FREE OF CHARGE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED A NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-855-671-3059. HYUNDAI'S NUMBER FOR THIS RECALL IS 123.

2011 - 2012 ENGINE INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT
Status: Remedy Available

Click here or call 1-800-633-5151 to locate an authorized Hyundai dealer near you to obtain more information about this recall.

Description: HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA (HYUNDAI) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 SONATA VEHICLES MANUFACTURED DECEMBER 11, 2009, TO APRIL 12, 2012 AT HYUNDAI MOTOR MANUFACTURING ALABAMA AND EQUIPPED WITH EITHER A 2.0 LITER OR 2.4 LITER GASOLINE DIRECT INJECTION ENGINE. IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, METALLIC DEBRIS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN FULLY REMOVED DURING MANUFACTURING OF THE ENGINE CRANKSHAFT. IF THE DEBRIS WAS NOT COMPLETELY REMOVED, OIL FLOW MAY BE RESTRICTED THROUGH THE CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS, CAUSING CONNECTING ROD DAMAGE AND POSSIBLE ENGINE FAILURE. A WORN CONNECTING ROD BEARING WILL PRODUCE A METALLIC, CYCLIC KNOCKING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AND POSSIBLE ENGINE FAILURE.

ENGINE FAILURE WOULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE STALL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: HYUNDAI WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLES AND REPLACE THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY, AS NECESSARY, FREE OF CHARGE. ADDITIONALLY, HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA WILL INCREASE THE WARRANTY FOR THE ENGINE SUB-ASSEMBLY (SHORT BLOCK) TO 10 YEARS/120,000 MILES FOR BOTH ORIGINAL AND SUBSEQUENT OWNERS OF 2011 AND 2012 SONATAS MANUFACTURED AT HYUNDAI MOTOR MANUFACTURING ALABAMA EQUIPPED WITH 2.0 LITER AND 2.4 LITER GASOLINE DIRECT INJECTION ENGINES. INTERIM NOTIFICATIONS WERE MAILED TO OWNERS STARTING ON OCTOBER 8, 2015. A SECOND NOTIFICATION WILL BE MAILED WHEN PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-855-671-3059 OR BY VISITING WWW.HYUNDAIUSA.COM/CAMPAIGN132. HYUNDAI'S NUMBER FOR THIS RECALL IS 132.

SONATA BRAKE PEDAL STOPPER PAD REPLACEMENT
Status: Remedy Available

Click here or call 1-800-633-5151 to locate an authorized Hyundai dealer near you to obtain more information about this recall.

Description: HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA (HYUNDAI) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 SONATA VEHICLES MANUFACTURED DECEMBER 11, 2009 TO JUNE 30, 2011. IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, THE BRAKE PEDAL STOPPER PAD CAN DETERIORATE ALLOWING THE STOP LAMP SWITCH PLUNGER TO REMAIN EXTENDED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED.

IF THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH PLUNGER DOES NOT RETRACT AS IT SHOULD WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT BEING PRESSED, THE BRAKE LIGHTS MAY STAY ILLUMINATED PREVENTING ACCURATE COMMUNICATION TO REARWARD FOLLOWING VEHICLES THAT THE VEHICLE IS SLOWING OR STOPPING. ADDITIONALLY, IF THE BRAKE SWITCH PLUNGER IS NOT RETRACTED, THEN THE TRANSMISSION CAN BE SHIFTED OUT OF PARK WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. EITHER CONDITION INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: HYUNDAI WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE PEDAL STOPPER PAD WITH AN IMPROVED PART, FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON JANUARY 11, 2016. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-855-671-3059. HYUNDAI'S NUMBER FOR THIS RECALL IS 136.

Glossary

First Owner
When the first owner(s) obtains a title from a Department of Motor Vehicles as proof of ownership.
New Owner Reported
When a vehicle is sold to a new owner, the Title must be transferred to the new owner(s) at a Department of Motor Vehicles.
Ownership History
CARFAX defines an owner as an individual or business that possesses and uses a vehicle. Not all title transactions represent changes in ownership. To provide estimated number of owners, CARFAX proprietary technology analyzes all the events in a vehicle history. Estimated ownership is available for vehicles manufactured after 1991 and titled solely in the US including Puerto Rico. Dealers sometimes opt to take ownership of a vehicle and are required to in the following states: Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and South Dakota. Please consider this as you review a vehicle's estimated ownership history.
Title Issued
A state issues a title to provide a vehicle owner with proof of ownership. Each title has a unique number. Each title or registration record on a CARFAX report does not necessarily indicate a change in ownership. In Canada, a registration and bill of sale are used as proof of ownership.
CARFAX DEPENDS ON ITS SOURCES FOR THE ACCURACY AND RELIABILITY OF ITS INFORMATION. THEREFORE, NO RESPONSIBILITY IS ASSUMED BY CARFAX OR ITS AGENTS FOR ERRORS OR OMISSIONS IN THIS REPORT.
